Motion detector on covered Patio in Florida?

Can I put a motion detector on my covered Patio? It will be placed well out of the elements.

Physically you can do it.  But it is designed to work in a temperature controlled environment (because it actually is a "change in heat" detector) so the odds of it working reliably is not high.
