Low battery on entry sensor

Hello,

I just had everything installed tonight and I'm getting a low battery message on one of my entry sensors. Will this set off a false alarm? How long do I have to change the battery? Should I just deactivate this one until I can replace the battery? I'm surprised it's low already when I just recieved the package this morning.

Thanks for your help.

This poster is describing an issue that may be related to a very old version of system firmware. For more info on how to update your system, please visit the Help Center here. A low battery won't set off your alarm, and once the battery is dead, nothing else happens. (you might continue to get an error message, such as "sensor not responding").  You don't have to deactivate the sensor, just take the bad battery out, get a new one, put it in, and you should be good to go again.

I also recently installed a new system.  After pulling the battery protection tabs, I had 2 of 5 door sensors report low battery warnings.  After replacing the battery on one, I tested the battery with a multi-meter.  The battery showed a fresh battery voltage.  I became a bit suspicious, so on the other sensor I removed the battery and reinserted it.  The low battery warning went away.  I suspect a remove - reinsert battery technique may clear your low battery warning.  The technique is free.  See if it works.  (It's kind of like power cycling your smartphone or rebooting your PC.)

Same problem with one entry sensor after installing a brand new system yesterday. Today the message is gone, even though I did not remove/replace the battery.  Will try that if it happens again.

I got seven entry sensors and four of them had low battery out of the box.  I've been trying to get in touch with SS and haven't been able to.

If you had one error alert on that sensor and it went away, it very well could error again when you least expect it to.  This could be due to a low battery, or, it could be due to placement of the sensor (i.e., if a window for example, that the sensor is behind very heavy curtains, or blinds, or even some other interference between it and the base station like distance, or a thick wall, metal, etc).

Lastly, sometimes, just re-seating the battery can help.

Change the batteries in your two sensors.

Same for the siren, try changing the batteries.  Also make sure there is no interference between it and your base station, such as metal, wiring, appliances, thick walls, etc. - sometimes distance is an issue, so you could try moving the base station just a few inches or so toward the siren if possible.

Lastly, if you have SS3, and interactive monitoring, you can go to your online dashboard, and under Devices, remove and then re-add the siren - but write down the serial number first because you need it to re-add it.  Be sure to click "save changes" button at bottom of page when you remove the siren AND when you re-add it.

If none of these work, unfortunately, this will require a call to SS for troubleshooting and/or a replacement siren.

I was receiving this error on two entry sensors. It went away after I renamed them.

I just received my new SS3 today which is an upgrade from SS2 and I had the same thing happen on 1 of my 6 entry sensors. Sounds like it is happening to many others as well. My take on this is that it has to do with the pull tabs that keep the batteries from being active while the parts are shipped. Pulling the tabs might partially dislodge the battery and cause this issue. I immediately thought how in the world can this entry sensor have a low battery already when I just received it and installed it within hours of receiving it in the mail? I took the back off and moved the battery a bit and it seems that worked. I guess it just needed to be re-seated. I would suggest this if others are also having the issue of low/dead batteries with new sensors..

At first I thought, since the 4 low-battery alerts I had on a brand new system were for entry sensors furthest away from the base station, that it was a proximity issue.  But re-seating the batteries in those sensors did the trick.  Thanks Taurus2313!

I just replaced the 2032 batteries in all 3 of my entry sensors.  One of the sensors now the chime at the base station when I open the door, but the other two do not trigger the chime.

Also, I  rebooted the base station and got a message that said "entry sensor battery low."  The batteries are all brand new, straight from the package.

Please help.

I am having the same issue today on a new system I installed.  Two of the sensors are showing low battery and I doubt there is any interference; they are installed in windows with one of them being adjacent to two other windows that have no issues.  One worked for two days, then said low battery, the other about a week.  I unfortunately tossed out a perfectly good battery on the first one to find it also didn't like the new battery.  I swapped batteries with adjacent window, and it was ok again for about a day, then the error returned so the problem follows the sensor, not the battery.

I can pull the battery and put it back and it will be OK for a day.  I'm going to try swapping the location of the sensor, but I don't think that's the problem.

I have 19 of these sensors - I hope this is not going to a "thing".

SS is already sending one new sensor, so now I must call about the second one.
