Glassbreak sensor placement

I recently purchased two glassbreak sensors to place near entry doors with glass cut-outs. I placed the sensors in the corner of the rooms to the SIDE of the doors within 3 feet of the glass. However, I noticed when installing that the Simplisafe app recommended placing the sensors directly facing the glass. Do you think these sensors are close enough to the glass that they don't have to be directly across from the glass? Or should I re-position them? I don't really have any good spots across from one of the doors, though for the other door I could place the sensor on a shelf about 10 feet away directly across from it. Just want to make sure that my current installation isn't useless!

@vistaronn I have several glassbreaks with one in my kitchen  in a corner of the eating area, in a corner, about 7 feet high. It is covering my large bay window, that really consists of 3 separate windows, largest in the middle.which are about 14 feet way. Sensitivy is set to high (Switch located inside the sensor that you can see when off the back mounting bracket.

To test Simplisafe way: put your system in test.  Push test button on top of sensor. Walk up near window and clap your hands. Base should say "glass break sensor" and if  you have push alerts on you will get notice.

My way: borrow neighbor's old windows after they got new ones installed (I got 5 of them), got a drop cloth on kitchen floor in front of bay windws, set system via my phone to home, and then hit hammer on window to break the glass.  Yep , it worked fine and I am sure your's will too. BTW, my wife is not a big fan of my testing methodology.

Please post your outcome here if you get a chance.

Thanks, Captain11. Since the sensors are very close to the glass, I think they are probably fine even if they don't directly face the glass, but I'll have to try a test some time. Have you ever gotten false alarms with the sensitivity set to high? Mine are set to medium right now. I'd like to set to high for the most security, but I don't want to risk any false alarms. I'm worried about things like thunder from close lightning strikes which we experience fairly often here.

Hi vistaronn,

The Glassbreak Sensor is designed to trigger for a specific sequence of sounds - a low pitched thud followed by a high-pitched crash. So thunder shouldn't be a problem, and not even just dropping a glass on the floor would do it. It has the be the very specific sound profile of windows being smashed in.

@vistaronn I think you will be find. Again, the test procedure is simple. Call SS if  you need assistance.

@johnnyM  speaking from experience, during very large, severe thunderstorms the glassbreaks will, unfortunately, set off the alarm (I am talking huge storms which we have occasionally in the midwest). Luckily, it has only happened twice in going on 4 years with SS3.
