Ceiling fans

I have 2 rooms with ceiling fans, they are mounted 5 feet from the floor, about 3-4 feet away from the fans and have never a false alarm in the past 7 years....with the exception of my cat getting locked in the same room.

I also have a grandfather clock that chimes 4 times an hour and it won't trigger the glass break sensor either.

SimpliSafe's Motion Sensors use passive infrared. Basically, it's looking for an object that's warmer than the rest of the room, and only if it's moving around. So normally, a ceiling fan shouldn't be a problem, since it shouldn't be producing a lot of heat.

Though conceivably, there could be a scenario where the fan could blow around air pockets that are much hotter than the rest of the room (like, say, from a heating vent). With the extreme chill we've been having in the Northeast US recently, maybe it could be possible!

Though you are onto something, relating to the Motion Sensor's viewing angles. Here's what it looks like:

Since the sensor's field of view doesn't point upwards, it won't be able to see anything above its own level. So that can come in handy if there's anything you want the sensor to avoid!
