Reinstalling Your System After A Move
Updated
Whether you’re moving across town or to another state, we aim to make taking your SimpliSafe® system with you as easy as possible.
When taking your system with you, it’s important to follow these steps prior to moving out of your old home to set up your system’s move for success.
Disarm Your System
To prevent false alarms, you’ll want to fully disarm your system. To do this:
Make sure your system is disarmed by setting the Keypad or SimpliSafe® Mobile App to OFF mode.
Unplug the Base Station and use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the battery compartment door. Once that is done, remove a single battery from the unit.
Order a Mover’s Kit
Give us a call at 888-692-0229 to order your free Mover’s Kit, which should arrive within 5-7 business days. This kit comes with materials to pack up your devices and label them so you know exactly which sensor corresponds to the name within the SimpliSafe® Mobile App.
Reinstalling Your System
When you have moved into your new home and are ready to install your system, there are a few key steps you’ll need to take.
Ready your Base Station
Prior to moving, you disarmed your system fully by setting the system to OFF mode and removing a battery from the Base Station. To get your system set back up, you’ll first want to power on the Base Station. To do this, reinsert the battery that you removed from it. Then close the battery compartment using your Phillips head screwdriver and plug the Base Station into power. You’ll want to make sure that you place your Base Station in a centrally-located area of your new home, and avoid putting it in cabinets or on top of metal surfaces. To learn more about the best place to put your Base Station, see our Where Should I Place My Base Station? article.
Did your Wi-Fi Change?
When you move, it’s possible that your Wi-Fi network name or password could change. If it does, you’ll want to make sure that you update the SimpliSafe® Mobile App with the latest information.
You can do this at any time by opening the mobile app and going to:
The “My System” gear on the bottom of the screen.
Tap on “Base Station Settings”.
Choose “Wi-Fi Network”.
Follow the on-screen instructions to choose your 2.4GHz network and enter its password.
Reinstall Sensors and Cameras
Next, you’ll want to physically install your sensors and cameras to their new locations. For sensors that are being mounted with adhesive, use the adhesive tape provided in the Mover’s Kit you ordered. If you need to order more strips, reach out to us and our team would be happy to help.
If the location of any of your devices changed during the move, you may want to rename the device to match the new location. You can do this by following these steps on the SimpliSafe® Mobile App:
Sensors and Devices:
Navigate to the “My System” gear on the bottom of the screen.
Choose “Device Settings”.
Tap on the device you wish to edit.
Tap the “Name” field and input the new name of your device.
Hit “Done” on your keyboard.
Android: Choose “Save” and then “Send” to update your device name.
iOS: Select “Send to Base” and “Send” again to save your device name.
Cameras:
Navigate to the “Cameras” tab on the bottom of the screen.
Choose the gear icon on the top right corner to open Camera Settings.
Note: you will see two gear icons on your screen, select the gear on the top right corner.
Tap on the camera that you wish to edit.
Choose the pencil icon next to the name of your camera.
Type in the new name of your camera.
Tap “Save” in the upper right corner of the SimpliSafe® Mobile App to update your camera name.
Restart your Monitoring Plan and Update your Address
If you canceled your monitoring plan during your move, you can reactivate it at any time within the SimpliSafe® Mobile App, or by calling our team of experts at 888-692-0229.
You’ll also want to double-check to see if your new address requires a permit for your SimpliSafe® system. You can check at any time from within the Web App by going to Monitoring > Alarm Permit Requirements. If you have any questions about permitting or need assistance with your application, please reach out to our team directly at permits@simplisafe.com
