Improve your signal strength
The first step to address slow upload speed for your camera is to improve the WiFi signal strength if it is weak. Weak WiFi signal will degrade your camera’s upload speed. For information on improving WiFi signal strength, visit here. If your signal strength is already good, please move on to the next step.
Move other devices off of the WiFi network and onto ethernet or a 5 ghz network
If you have multiple smart devices such as computers, TVs, or gaming consoles connected to your WiFi, try moving them off your onto ethernet, if possible. Our camera devices are only compatible with 2.4 ghz networks in order to provide wider coverage. 2.4 gHz penetrates walls and floors much better than 5 gHz networks. However, you can move other devices onto a 5 ghz network if your router supports a separate network. Both of these steps will reduce the congestion on your WiFi network.
Create a dedicated WiFi network for your SimpliSafe devices and reserve bandwidth to that network
Many modern routers are able to split their WiFi signal in this way. Consult your router’s manual for more information. Remember to move your SimpliSafe devices onto the new WiFi network.
Reduce your streaming resolution
Lower resolution videos require less upload speed. If you are unable to increase your available upload speed using the methods above, you can try reducing the resolution of the video feed by visiting the camera settings page in the app.
Replace your router if it is more than a few years old
As internet-connected devices improve, they demand more from your Wi-Fi router. Because of this, routers more than a few years old don’t work as well when supporting multiple modern devices. Contact your ISP for more details on compatible routers.
Upgrade your internet package
Our cameras require a certain amount of upload speed in order to successfully transmit video to our system. For speed requirements, please visit here. Contact your ISP for more information on your package and upgrading.
