Public API?

Hello,
Does anyone know if Simplisafe plans on releasing a public API so software designers can implement control of our Simplisafe alarm systems into home automation systems?
I use Homeseer, which is a very popular and powerful HA program. I had a hard wired DSC system which I had a plugin for that I could utilize my sensors to control events, and could use events to control the alarm system. When I decided to move to Simplisafe I saw that a developer had a plugin for Simplisafe so I bought the system and the plugin worked great. Then it didn't. Simplisafe changed something in the logon protocol and Homeseer could no longer log onto Simplisafe. Then the developer gave up on the plugin so now all of use Simplisafe users with Homeseer have no option and one of the head developers at Homeseer said the issue is with Simplisafe because they don't have a public API that the plugin can be written from. Sure would be nice if they have one. From what I'm told most other alarm manufacturers do so their products can be integrated into HA systems.

@jonjon.winn based on past history of 8 years I would say the answer is a very sure "no".  SS does has not ever released anything like you described in your post above.

Seriously doubt they would.

Well actually someone there emailed me and thought it was a great idea and sent the suggestion to Engineering. It's in their best interest, as people start moving toward automated homes, they will be looking for systems that can be integrated which is what I did with this one. When I bought this, there was a plugin for Homeseer but the developer stopped supporting it. Because they didn't have an api it was difficult for him to keep up with changes that would break the plugin. With so many other companies out there doing it, they would only be leaving themselves behind if they don't. And yeah, "based on the past history of eight years" well HA wasn't as popular then would be my guess. Times change, gotta keep up with it..

@jonjon.winn I feel honored you quoted me, but still think you are going to be disappointed, and have a proposal for you: how about a friendly bet?  Some of us in the forums have done this before, all in the name of charity. Here goes:

$25 donation to the charity of choice of the winner, by the loser.  (I should note that even when I won I still made a donation to my charity so it is, in fact, pretty friendly. The format:

Simplisafe actually makes a public API available by xxxx date.  I say no way, and if they do, I will make the donation to your posted charity. If they don't,  I win, and you donate to Alzheimer's' Society.  You can pick the date. Let me know!

I really wish that they would. I love SimpliSafe, but they really need to have an API like everyone else on the planet. It would be so cool. For example, I just came across an AI robot, that allows you to control it remotely and view from its camera. It has an API. You could train it to respond to alarms by moving to the location and searching for intruders, fire or whatever. You could do the same with drones that provide an API. Imagine the look on a potential intruder's mug when confronted with a drone allowing you to use its speaker to issue him a stern warning (whether you are actually home or not).

I agree for the need for an API with home automation. If my alarm goes off, I want to be able turn on all the lights and perhaps send a warning over a speaker. If this doesn't happen soon, I'm going to eat my investment in SS and go elsewhere that is more supportiv.

I am using the Home Assistant integration but the fact it can take up to 30 seconds for any sort of notification is ridiculous. How quick are you getting the alerts.

I just wish I could add and remove devices via API. Simplisafe crappy customer service literally refuses to call both numbers on my contact list before sending the fire department. It is insane they would only call me when I am 500 miles away, and my wife is at home. I have 11 combo smoke/co 2 that I now have to use as stand alone Device because of their ignorance.

Would love to add them when I go to sleep or leave the house and remove them when I am here and awake. None of that would be needed if they just called both numbers but you can only take a horse to water.

Was thinking about renewing my dependency/subscription on SimpliSafe, as a newcomer to Home Assistant. Tried for several hours to implement the integration without an "official" api. Too hard, too much complexity and too bad....

will rip out SimpliSafe and build another system in place. Have all the cameras, AI, smoke detectors anyway. Who needs them. Just need 15 or so extremely affordable sensors.

They need to get with it or fall further behind. They used to be innovators leading us from the old hardwired days. Now they are followers on a "clutch and hold on" track it seems.

too bad!

@harmonysmith2018 It's been awhile but I believe I used the steps below to get it setup and it's been running great for probably 6 or 7 months now.

Step-by-Step Setup
  1. Prepare SimpliSafe: Ensure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is turned on in your SimpliSafe account settings.
  2. Add the Integration:
    • Navigate to your Home Assistant dashboard.
    • Go to Settings > Devices & Services.
    • Click the Add Integration button in the bottom right corner.
    • Search for SimpliSafe and click on it.
  3. Authenticate: Home Assistant will prompt you to log into your SimpliSafe account via a web page. Enter your standard username and password.
  4. Retrieve the Authorization Code:
    • Complete your MFA challenge (usually by entering a code sent to your email or phone).
    • After successfully logging in, the page might appear blank or throw an error. Check your browser's address bar or the developer console (Network tab).
    • Look for a redirected URL that looks similar to: com.simplisafe.mobile://auth.simplisafe.com/...
    • Copy the code=... portion at the very end of that URL.
  5. Finish the Setup: Paste this authorization code into the prompt in Home Assistant and complete the setup. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
If you run into any issues during the OAuth linking process, using a different web browser can help trigger the authentication flow more smoothly. [1, 2]
