Outdoor Camera Firmware 1.6 (February 2022)

Hi folks,

New year, new update! This one is focused on improving the experience for users of the Wireless Outdoor Camera. As a reminder, camera updates are pushed to your devices automatically - so no action is required on your end.

The full rollout is already in progress as of today (2/8/21), and will gradually be sent out to all active Outdoor Cameras in the next couple of weeks. You can check if your camera has already been updated through the SimpliSafe app, at the bottom of the Camera Settings page. If your camera has been updated, you should see version 1.6.5 or higher.

One more important thing to know is that the groundwork for this update was laid out in Base Station Firmware Update 2.5. To take advantage of these improvements for the Outdoor Camera, you’ll want to make sure that your Base Station is up to date.

Here’s what’s coming to your Wireless Outdoor Camera:

  • Faster notifications on your phone for motion events
  • Better support for select WiFi mesh routers
  • Faster startup for live streaming and recording
  • Resolved an issue impacting battery life of some devices

excellent! I'm looking forward to seeing this update. My thanks for the tweak to the mobile app to illustrate the numerical charge level on the outdoor cameras. That really does make a difference when monitoring the batteries.

@galenwork where are you seeing this numerical charge value? I don't see it on my Android

@Scotch5  Well, it had been immediately to the right of the tiny bar graph a numerical value and '%' would show up. Unfortunately, my cameras are all offline at the moment to be moved, and despite the fact that they are all still listed (with battery charges,) the numeric percentage is gone.  I have no explanation for the comings and goings in the mobile app.  In the Help & Support, what I presume is version is 2078.18.0 #5784

@jloco How did you know you were updated? Email or text message? Or notice on control unit?

I got my cameras in late February 2022. Are they "pre" updated?

And as regards "select WiFi mesh routers", which ones? SS sells TP-Link extnders (bought one but think it was a waste of money) but I have NetGear Orbi mesh system.

Bought cameras late February 2022. Already updated.

And is NetGear Orbi mesh included in "select" mesh routers?

Where do I go to see what version of firm wear my outdoor camera is running?

@sharonkissling510 it would be in the Camera Settings page for your camera, in the SimpliSafe App.

Even after the updates, the outdoor cameras are still too slow waking up.  10 to 20 seconds still passes before recording begins.

@ljg123 thanks for the feedback. More updates to optimize performance are still on the way!

when will you be adding the ability to trigger the alarm through the APP.  Simply being able to 'talk to' and intruder through the camera is useless.

@BJ1219 with the current design of our system, a Panic Alarm is specifically a signal to our Monitoring team that there is someone on the premises who needs immediate assistance. But in the situation you describe, there should already be an alarm event in progress from one of the Intruder Sensors.

Of course, we are always listening to customer feedback. So you can give your thoughts on our thread on the Suggestions section here.

That function is currently also not available. We'll keep you updated if the feature is enabled.
