Thanks Again to Simplisafe
Last year on October 20th, as I mentioned in this forum before, we had a house fire that spread so fast, my wife barely had time to get our pets out and hit the panic button on the Simplisafe system. Her phone had already burned up, so she could not dial 911. Police officers responding were able to alert firefighters. At that time, we had Simplisafe to prevent burglaries, never thinking that it would be needed for a fire. I assumed that because we already had smoke alarms from another provider, we were safe. We figured we didn't need a Simplisafe smoke alarm.
Take it from a satisfied customer. Please do not think of Simplisafe as "just a burglar alarm." It is much more than that.
We are moving back into our house today, and you can bet that the system we reordered was a Simplisafe system. It arrived in perfect condition, and I'm going to install it this weekend. And this time, I included a Simplisafe smoke alarm. Lesson learned. I will never be without a Simplisafe smoke alarm again.
Parents, think about getting the entry-level Simplisafe system for your kids who are going off to college. Don't take it for granted that they'll be able to get to their smartphones in case of emergency. I live near a college town, and we have apartment fires all the time. Picture 400 college kids, and some have never cooked before. That's 400 kids cooking 2-3 meals daily. Somebody will leave their stove unattended. They'll have about 30 seconds before the first apartment is in flames, and maybe 5 minutes after that before it spreads to the next apartment. The little red panic button can save your child's life. --Scott Williams, Ayden, NC

If your are willing to share, what started the fire? I'm always trying to learn from others so I can try to prevent disaster!
Still in the process of getting my SS2 installed and working. So far no connection. Once I do, their smoke detector is on the short list. Pretty cheap for a connected, monitored detector.

Our new house we just bought has interconnected (as I think all homes should have) smoke alarms and 2 CO/Smoke detectors that talk. Not too sure how I feel about the talking models.
If you got the new SS3 system (and maybe even the old SS2, we just upgraded so not sure) if you go into the dashboard you can actually change the behavior of the panic button on the keypad now to either sound the alarm and call the police, trigger as a fire alarm and dispatch the fire department or as a medical alarm to dispatch EMS! I just actually discovered this a little bit ago when I was adding another sensor to our system and was so glad to see those options in there now.
