Temperature sensor accuracy

So there is work going on in our basement so I brought the temperature sensor upstairs and set it on top of the thermostat.

Thermostat says its 71 the temp sensor says 66.

Thermostat says 68, the temp sensor says 66.

(Yes I refreshed it)

What gives is it really that corse or a reading or did I get a flakey one?

I have multiple temperature sensors at the house and they're typically 1-2 degrees off, max, from nearby temperature sensors:

Sensor on wall downstairs next to thermostat shows 70 and thermostat shows 69

Sensor on wall upstairs next to hygrometer/temperature combo shows 69 and the hygrometer/temperature combo shows 69

Sensor on shelf in garage next to hygrometer/temperature combo shows 56 and the hygrometer/temperature combo shows 55

I've never noticed any wild discrepancies. The sensors are all about a year, maybe a year and a half old?

Have you removed and replaced the batteries to "reboot" them? It's possible they'll calibrate closer to your other sources when they come back up. Alternately you could bring in a third source to check? Maybe the temperature sensors are accurate and it's your thermostat that's off? :) (I mean, it's possible but unlikely.) If that doesn't work, call support and see if they'll replace it.

PS. Without spending significant money I've found that half a dozen sensors of the same type, from the same company, on the same counter top can show discrepancies of 1-3 degrees. I've come to accept that as 'normal' but I wouldn't accept a 5 degree difference as 'normal'.

Any updates? I'm genuinely curious.

I just bought a temperature sensor. It’s consistently 10 F lower than the thermostat and 8 F lower than an Accurite thermometer placed right next to the sensor.

@worthing My apologies i missed this. Not really i never got to really logging it, i will say that it recently seems to be better as its much closer to or the same as the thermostat set temp.

I really do need to try and log it.

@timchoo Please report any additional findings. I wish i had some advice for you.
