Update on Scottish legislation change for fire and smoke detectors

Hi all,

Natalie here from the UK SimpliSafe team. If you’re a customer based in Scotland, you will be aware that the law on fire alarms is changing from February 2022. This means all Scottish homes will need to have interlinked alarms.

Whilst the SimpliSafe Smoke Detector monitors for smoke and fires; and if you are on the Pro Premium plan, our monitoring centre can request fire service dispatch upon a visually verified incident, it is not interlinked. Therefore, the SimpliSafe Smoke Detector does not meet the new regulations in Scotland. For further information on these new guidelines, we recommend you refer to your local government’s website.

If you are a customer based in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, the fire and smoke regulations have not changed and the SimpliSafe Smoke Detector remains an appropriate fire detection system.

If you have any questions, you can contact the team on 0800 920 2420.

Thanks!

Can I add an entry sensor to my system It's for an outside shed, but it's about 10m away from the base.

Hi @laing2022, good question. The sensors can work up to 100ft away from the Base Station, but it depends on the number of walls etc. in between. From what you've said, that distance should be fine. Give it a try in test mode to start to make sure everything is ok. Thanks

Thanks for this, would I be correct in saying if a smoke alarm goes off the actual house internal sirens will also activate?

Hi , yep that's right. If the Smoke Detector was triggered it'd also sound the siren on the Base Station as well as its own siren. Let us know if there's anything else we can help with. Thanks, Natalie

Will SimpliSafe offer a smoke detector alarm listener to integrate with interlinked systems?

@seth51 at this time we don't have any info on further hardware releases. But we'll keep you updated.

Any updates on this?  My house currently has smoke detectors that are hardwired and interconnected.  This is required by code here in Honolulu.  The current detectors are aging out and need to be replaced.  Can your detectors be used?  The integrate would be helpful during the replacement.

@clarkjacks at this time, we are only able to offer wireless units. They can be installed alongside your existing wired smoke detectors, to connect with the Monitoring Service. But cannot be used as a replacement if wired units are required.

We have a pending request for Wired Smoke Detectors here. Unfortunately, the request is not currently in the works.
