Base station triggers non-SimpliSafe smoke alarm

We have been awakened on a couple occasions recently by false smoke detector (Kidde) alarms.  This has happened when our SS security system is armed.  The base station with its blue LED is located directly below one of our smoke alarms.   As soon as we disarmed the SimpliSafe system, the alarm stopped.  Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Hi @petergallagher08,

The SimpliSafe system shouldn't trigger non-SimpliSafe devices. I know you mentioned that the Base Station is directly under one of your Smoke Detectors. To rule this out, I would try moving the Base Station away from the Smoke Detector to see if this continues to happen or not.

Yes, we have done that,  and we hope that fixes the problem.

Did that work for you? I recently installed a Simplisafe system and my Kidde smoke alarms have gone off 3 times since with no reasoning or explanation

It's not going to get better.  Forget all the technical jargon, the built in Kidde wireless network conflicts with SimpliSafe base station Wifi and setts of the smoke alarms.  I also posted below we gave up and replaced the Kidde units with SimpliSafe ones.

User here. All I can say is Simplisafes RF frequency is almost identical to some interlinked WiFi smoke detectors. 433mhz range.

If yours are just WiFi detectors it's doubtful. Blow them out with an air cannister for cleaning electronic devices.

Interlinked detectors are usually RF 433mhz also.

So RF signals in similar frequency range?

Not impossible. Also not impossible for Kiddies to cause interference to base if RF.

Try moving the base station around I suppose without affecting your SimpliSafe sensors.

We gave up.  My wife was so upset with the smoke detectors going off, usually when I was out of town for some reason.  We trash canned the 2 month old Kidde alarms and installed SimpliSafe detectors.  Not cheap but peace of mind is priceless.

Thanks for the follow up. I moved our base station around and they have stopped going off but my system is still in practice mode. I’ll have to see if this continues because it would be extremely annoying. Kidde wired smoke alarms are all over our home and went off 4 times yesterday. I thought I was going crazy but your post gave me some comfort that I’m not the only one experiencing this.

@petergallagher08 You'll have to clean those often with air cannisters. They're sensitive and prone to false alarm as well.

Precisely why I didn't buy any. I use just WiFi smoke alarms and WiFi CO alarms.

Not meaning to disturb your peace of mind. Just search here or online.

Plus from what I've read, when you are out of town, and you get a false smoke alarm, you cant turn it off in the app.

@sethjhal One other tip, if you search you'll find many with Kiddie false alarms of various setup without any mention of Simplisafe. Who knows?

Bugs, dust, steam, particles, I'd blow them all out with canned air occasionally too.

Though with standard smoke alarms I've purchased over 40 or 50 years, I've never had a false alarm other than cooking caused.

And I don't ever blow them out.

@dlpsr we didn’t have a single false alarm until the day we installed the Simplisafe system. All the Kidde smoke detectors and brand new. It’s likely interference with the Simplisafe system and the hard wired Kidde Smoke alarms. It seems like other users that it’s more frequent to go off when the Simplisafe system is armed. If I don’t get it resolved I’ll be returning and quiting Simplisafe and going with another system.

@sethjhal Sounds logical to me.
