Smartlock doesn't have great range

I have three locks in my house.  Two on the inside of the house and one on the garage side door.  It has never been that great, but lately it's been pretty useless.  I am constantly getting errors about it not being able to connect to the base station.  Most of the time I can lock it from the app but it will not register that it locked.

So in an attempt to test it to see if it is just the lock, I took one of the other locks and put it out in the garage and I had the same results.  The base station cannot connect to it.  In order to get to it, the signal needs to go five feet and then through a couple of walls.  I've tried putting the base station all over the place and the only location that seem to work consistently is if I put it right up against the garage wall.  The problem with that is that this puts the base station in plain sight.  There isn't any way to hide it.  I did try putting it on the inside of a bench that is sitting in that area and it wouldn't even work through that.

Is this normal?  I know that it's not the lock because the lock worked fine before being put out in the garage.  I've run out of things to do to try and get it to work.

@usmaak I have a two story colonial and full basement.  2600 sq ft approximately, attached garage and 42 sensors in every part of the house. All connect fine, including the doorlock and 3 simplicams.  I have Google WIFI, with the main hub and 2 remote nodes. Their mesh systems cover the entire very well and set up and maintenance is a snap.

I have 1Ghz up/down FTH with an ASUS mesh system.  Correct me if I'm wrong, however wifi has nothing to do with door locks, right?  It's all the base station.  That one door lock is the only sensor I have that is not playing nice.  Maybe my base station sucks?

@usmaak, you are correct, no wifi but is your base updated to version 1.4 or later for the firmware? Other than that, I would call SS to troubleshoot and don't hesitate to escalate. Again, other than notifications, my lock works as designed.

I will have to call them.  I'm wondering if maybe there's an issue with the basestation.  I am upgraded on all firmware, both lock and base.  This has been a problem ever since I got my locks, it's just been worse recently for some reason.
