Sorry about that! in this case, it's because we don't have the battery cover currently available as a standalone item that we can ship. But I can send you a replacement for the whole thing, and you can just send back what you don't need (with free shipping, of course).

Davey (or whomever is Customer Support).  I have this same issue.  I called in to the customer support line a few months ago about this, but I was told this was not an available part to send to me.  The battery door came off like the customer above described one too many times and one of my dogs chewed it up.  Can I get this part?  I have a black lock.

@brianhash​ same story here. It finally came off whe we didn't notice and the dog destroyed it.  I'll call customer service to get a replacement.
