Wireless password limitations

Is there a reason why the wireless password support for the base station is limited? I had to setup an entire new guest network just for the base station because it does not support a 64 character length.

Hi nicholasjelinek,

The limit for the Base Station is unfortunately only 31 characters. This is due to a firmware limitation.

Is the password lengthy of 31 changed with new Feb firmware,  or will be in the future?  I have a Apple Time Machine and looks like it maintains same password for 2.4 and 5.0.   I suppose it's best practice to have the simply safe on the internal wi fi and not the guest wi fi.

I hope it changes.

@jk5598224 if we're talking about just your Base Station: that WiFi connection is only used for sending short bursts of information. The main difference is that Guest WiFi has tighter restrictions on the kind of data being sent through, as well as the amount of traffic it can use up. So for the purpose of sending Base Station signals, the impact is minimal.

As for the character limit, unfortunately it's in part of the code that is very difficult to change, so there won't be any movement on that request for a while.

I don't understand why you would put a limitation on a password that is not even controlled by SimpliSafe.

Wpa2 protocol allows 8 to 63 characters. It is a huge oversight that the base station only allows between 8 and 31. Folks who have their network configured with a long password have to go through the giant pain of updating their network password on every single device they own.

Come on!

How do I enter lower case letters for the wifi password? Thank you.

Just tried to change the base station's WiFi password to one longer than 31 characters, and, of course, as noted here, I COULDN'T!

This is yet another reason why the SimpliSafe product fails to live up to the Simpli part of their name.

Sorry I ever bought into this mess. I do not recommend this product.

As others have noted, this is a ridiculous limitation of the base station. So stupid.
