Updates are not automatic?

So now I learn that updates are not automatic and there is no notification when one needs to be done.  I just have to learn about it when the system fails?!?!?!?!?!?!

Or waste my time hanging out on the message boards to see what's new?  Who has time for this?

I am so beyond disappointed in this system.  And they don't seem to care about fixing it, they just keep suggesting ways for us to spend more money.

Hi ldunlevy71,

I'm not sure which part of the system you're talking about here. For all cameras - the Outdoor Camera, the Video Doorbell Pro, and the Indoor Camera - those updates are all fully automatic.

Since updating the Base Station could potentially disrupt the system's armed state (e.g. often the system needs to be disarmed for the update to go through at all), that does need to be initiated manually by the user whenever you're ready. But you'll know when an update is available for you via the Keypad - look for a ⚙️ gear icon. If your system is connected to the SimpliSafe app, you'll also get a notification there.

Yah, I have the same gripe.  Come on simplisafe.  Yes I would not like an update to interrupt my alarm while it is set but you are a tech company.  Updates should be completed when systems are disarmed and if a system is armed while an update is in  progress the update should be paused.  Or a notification should be pushed that an up date Is necessary.  Or an aural warning when a system is set from the base station.  A little gear symbol in the corner of a 1x3 screen is a crap solution.  If you are a tech company, which you are, you should be able to figure out how to fix this problem easily.

I understand where you're coming from. But it's not just the technical aspect that we're mindful of. The Base Station is the core of the system, so it's critical that you're present when an update is happening. That way, if anything goes wrong, you can reach out to our Support team and we can troubleshoot, or even get you a replacement until ASAP (overnight in a lot of cases).

That being said, you're right, we really should be doing more to highlight when new firmware is released. We've got a whole section dedicated to them on this Community, and I know there are ongoing efforts across our organization through other channels as well.

Why do I have to update each keypad separately?

Notifications by phone would be helpful instead of the little gear icon.  I also feel that people should have the option of automatic updates.

Maybe be able to set a day or time for automatic updates, when the system is unarmed.  Allow people to choose to opt in or opt out of the feature.

It seems to me this is the most important thing as the updates keep everything current add or fix things with the unit.  It should be a priority.
