Super frustrated with doorbell camera - QR Code

For my sanity, please help! As a single mom, I was pumped that I installed the doorbell camera on my own, but it's been nothing but struggles since.

No matter what I do, my camera will NOT read the QR code. I have tried everything - changing my distance, changing the screen brightness, trying at different times throughout the day (for lighting purposes), taking a picture of the QR code and enlarging it, resetting the doorbell, etc. I have called customer support 4 times and EVERY time I get someone that "can't hear me." How is that possible? I make other calls all the time with no issues.

I tried messaging support and that was a joke too - "try a reset" - Ummm, I have multiple times!

I had no problem setting up the indoor camera but this doorbell camera has been maddening and makes me want to uninstall everything I bought and send it back.

Any tips would be appreciated,

a very disgruntled (lol) user

Hi @courtneyk1024

Sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble with that QR code. There's a couple of things to check, based on what you've mentioned:

First, make sure that the Video Doorbell is showing the blinking white light, indicating that it's ready to scan. If it's showing a constant white, or a yellow, it's not yet ready.

Second, you want to make sure that the QR code is complete. There should be three concentric squares, on separate corners. If there's any of that cut off, the code can't be read. It may look like this:

When it's time to scan the QR code, I would suggest charging the camera up a bit for 30 minutes first. Then unmount it, and put both the camera and your phone (with the QR code showing) on a table. Start with them close to each other, then slowly slide your phone away until you hear the ding from the camera.

Finally, your WiFi name or password may be too long (the QR code has a total limit on how many characters it can support). If you have other devices in your home connected to your WiFi, I wouldn't recommend changing it because you'd have to reconnect all those other devices. But your ISP or WiFi router manufacturer can guide you through setting up a secondary or Guest WiFi network.

We recommend setting it up locked to 2.4GHz, with WPA2 encryption.

If the above doesn't help, I can also put you in touch with our escalation team. We'll get this figured out for you!
