Folks,
This is a big one. We know you've all been clamoring for a particular missing piece in our lineup, and now it's finally here. We are delighted to announce that the SimpliSafe Wireless Outdoor Security Camera is available RIGHT NOW!
The Outdoor Camera is feature packed, with everything you need to make your award-winning SimpliSafe system even better. Here's what you can expect when you get yours:
- Easy setup, with no wiring or special skills needed. Just download the app, screw in the magnetic mount, and place the camera.
- An ultra-wide 140º field of view, with 1080p HD resolution, for a clear view of details from up to 15 feet away.
- Instant alerts via the app. And thanks to Smart Person Detection you'll know right away as soon as someone sets foot on your property (available on select monitoring plans).
- Motion-activated spotlight lets you see who's there in color, even at night!
- Dual antennas to keep the camera connected to WiFi, no matter where you have it installed.
- Removable battery that lasts for up to 3 to 6 months on a single charge -- and recharges in just about 5 hours.
- 2-way audio, AND a built-in 80dB siren, so you can really get the message to unwanted guests!
- IP65 dust and water resistance, to withstand weather extremes. It can keep going through snow and rain, and temps between -20ºF to 113ºF.
For an in-depth look, check out our product page, here.
You might also be interested in some great accessories for the Outdoor Camera, like the Extra Battery and an extra-long 25ft Power Cable if you still want to keep your cam plugged in. We've even got a Solar Panel attachment, and an alternate mounting bracket, coming soon!
The SimpliSafe team is very proud of this latest addition to our lineup, and we know you're gonna love it. In the meantime, you probably have a lot of burning questions. Let me know here and I'll answer 'em!

I may just end up swapping out entirely to alternate vendor given this sh!t show of existing customer care.

For those who may be confused when reading the sentence above, the Outdoor Camera page at https://simplisafe.com/outdoor-security-camera now shows the following:
So it appears that, at least through SimpliSafe, you can't purchase the camera by itself at the moment.
@jarmendadmin,
Are you opposed to buying the camera elsewhere for some reason? It's in stock at Amazon.com and available for next day delivery where I am. I also see that it's in stock at bestbuy.com and lowes.com as well with some indication that some retail stores also have stock.

Is there a way to rotate the view on the outdoor camera (not talking about physical rotation of the camera, but the onscreen view)?

Tonight I seen someone walking down the street who I had never seen before.. watching him look the houses up and down.. paused slightly at one property that has no visable alarm on wall (UK we have bell boxes... I use a dummy one as SS still havent brought one out for us in UK market). Watched as he pulled out phone and typed something as if flagging that property. Needless to say I advised the occupiers... not fussed, no alarm.. two hours ago watched them go out in cars, all lights switched off , side gate lying open, may as well have a big flashing light "please break in to our house". - crazy.
For me I have front with an outdoor wireless camera - side of house with one, round the back I have a SS black camera in the outdoor kit and then the rest of house is fully protected. feel a lot more happy now !

Can you add a micro-usb extension cable to the solar panel attachment?

This new outdoor camera is too pricey and has a spotlight that states "here I am, take me out first "
plus as an owner of 1000,00 sytem and top tier monitoring I can't by one anyway.
I was going to move one of my indoor cameras outside but can't find the wetsuit on their site ( or anywhere )
I did just send SS an email since I can't find the wetsuit on their website and they sent a bad link
I asked them to verify the link and they replied to call support SMH
anyone know where to buy the outdoor conversion kit for an indoor camera ?

Sadly where I live there are weeks during the summer where it is over 113F day after day. Put something in the sun with electronics inside and I think an outdoor camera will cook.

Hello, is there any way to only receive notifications when the system is armed (home & away)? I don't want notifications every few minutes I'm hanging out in my backyard. Only when the alarm is set.

@astemdw I’m out of state and my new outdoor battery security camera has decided to malfunction. Everything was fine for a couple weeks. Now it records every few minutes, but where there should be the video I get a message that “This portion of the video is unavailable.” The entire vids are unavailable, plus it indicates that each video is several minutes long…sometimes well over 4 minutes. The normal length of videos is 10 to 20 seconds. As far as I can tell, my camera is recording, but nothing uploads. Did SimpliSafe put this camera on the market too quickly? I’m not humored at all about this.

Just got an outdoor camera installed and the battery doesn’t make 24 hours. The spotlight and status light are turned off. Picture quality is set to 720p. Motion detection is on. What should I try next to make my camera useable? Thanks.

It would be helpful for SimpliSafe to inform potential customers that the outdoor cameras must communicate via Radio Frequency (RF) with the Base Station in order to "wake up" the camera and analyze the video. Certain building materials block RF (such as metal or block). A SimpliSafe base unit inside a metal building (or other obstructive material) will likely NOT communicate with the outside cameras, as the RF is blocked. A metal barn or metal shop building with no windows is a prime example , the RF signal is unable to transmit between the base inside and the camera outside. I believe SimpliSafe is aware of this concern. Is there a solution? Is there an RF antenna wire that can be run from inside a metal building to the outside camera?
