My new outdoor camera will not connect to our base station (Gen 3).  I spent two hours on a call this last Saturday, upgrading software on the base station, keypad and app.  Even taking out the batteries everywhere. Nothing seems to work. I need a technician to come out to the house and fix this technical issue or someone call me.

@astemdw I’m out of state and my new outdoor battery security camera has decided to malfunction.  Everything was fine for a couple weeks. Now it records every few minutes, but where there should be the video I get a message that “This portion of the video is unavailable.”  The entire vids are unavailable, plus it indicates that each video is several minutes long…sometimes well over 4 minutes. The normal length of videos is 10 to 20 seconds. As far as I can tell, my camera is recording, but nothing uploads.  Did SimpliSafe put this camera on the market too quickly?  I’m not humored at all about this.

@LMJ I have 2 outdoor cams and on my Google WIFI they connect fine. 80 mbs eown, 20 up with 3 simplicams, one doorbell pro and the two outdoor cams. As far as image quality, no complaints. Don't know why the  different experience.

What's the point of this camera release when .existing customers with latest base station can't even purchase them? Been waiting for an actual usable outdoor camera from SimpliSafe since the news came out and now you're not even offering it to existing customers.  Are you trying to push us to other vendors like blink/Arlo?

I may just end up swapping out entirely to alternate vendor given this sh!t show of existing customer care.

For those who may be confused when reading the sentence above, the Outdoor Camera page at https://simplisafe.com/outdoor-security-camera now shows the following:

Low stock due to global computer chip shortages. Maximum of 2 units per new or upgraded system. Not available for individual sale at this time.

So it appears that, at least through SimpliSafe, you can't purchase the camera by itself at the moment.

@jarmendadmin,

Are you opposed to buying the camera elsewhere for some reason? It's in stock at Amazon.com and available for next day delivery where I am. I also see that it's in stock at bestbuy.com and lowes.com as well with some indication that some retail stores also have stock.

Rotate Camera View.
Is there a way to rotate the view on the outdoor camera (not talking about physical rotation of the camera, but the onscreen view)?

Yes; to to the setting page and click to on for "Rotate image 180 degrees".

Exactly as captain11 said.

These cameras are extremely unreliable. So far after two weeks I still have had tons of missed motion events, cut off video clips, disconnects and false alerts, and they still don't give .me an audible notification on my phone. Even with them set on high, my driveway cam completely missed a fedex delivery but triggered an alert when a bug flew by.

@robsp32   I’m having similar issues. Vehicles have already gone by with just the tail end appearing in the video. As far as I can tell these cameras lag extremely slow to recognize motion and then to wake up and start the recording process.

@sugakuga I sent them back in November for a full refund. I went with eufy which was far better quality. Problem with eufy is the customer service is horrendous, and the firmware updates often push out new problems with motion detection or delayed alerts. The hardware is strong, and the feature set is fantastic, but they need to work out the bugs way faster and actually do some sort of public relations in the support community on their own website.

@captain11 I ended up with 2 new outdoor cameras from a different supplier which work perfectly and are wireless battery so really pleased.  Outdoor fully covered with them and all windows doors and internals by SS.  Feel comfortable now.   they just... worked.

Tonight I seen someone walking down the street who I had never seen before.. watching him look the houses up and down.. paused slightly at one property that has no visable alarm on wall (UK we have bell boxes... I use a dummy one as SS still havent brought one out for us in UK market). Watched as he pulled out phone and typed something as if flagging that property.  Needless to say I advised the occupiers... not fussed, no alarm..   two hours ago watched them go out in cars, all lights switched off , side gate lying open,  may as well have a big flashing light "please break in to our house". - crazy.

For me I have front with an outdoor wireless camera - side of house with one, round the back I have a SS black camera in the outdoor kit and then the rest of house is fully protected.  feel a lot more happy now !

Can you add a micro-usb extension cable to the solar panel attachment?

The Solar Panel does plug into the Outdoor Camera with a regular micro-USB plug. However, the casing around the plug is specially shaped to fit snugly into the cam for a watertight fit.

So if you're asking if you can just use a third-party cable extension, we wouldn't recommend it.

But I'll pass it on to our product team as a suggestion.

I really had no choice but to add an outdoor Micro USB Power Extension Cable (20ft 6M) to the solar panels to get maximum sunlight and they work great with the extension cables. I had to mount the cameras under the eve of my home to get the correct angle on the video in the app since there is no option to rotate the video by just 90 degrees, you can only rotate it by 180 degrees which is a bummer. By mounting under the eve it also provides some protection from bad weather.

I purchased the outdoor Micro USB Power Extension Cable (20ft 6M) designed for multiple outdoor cameras on Amazon, easy quick search.

I hope this information helps.

This new outdoor camera is too pricey and has a spotlight that states "here I am,   take me out first "

plus as an owner of 1000,00 sytem and top tier monitoring I can't by one anyway.

I was going to move one of my indoor cameras outside but can't find the wetsuit on their site ( or anywhere )

I did just send SS an  email since I can't find the wetsuit  on their website  and they sent a bad link

I asked them to verify the link  and they replied  to call support  SMH

anyone know where to buy the outdoor conversion kit for an indoor camera ?

@zimerclan Just an FYI on the spotlights in the camera, you can turn them off in the settings of the app. Also, my best guess is since they released the new outdoor camera they probably also quit producing the wet suit for the indoor camera.

Hi @zimerclan,

Yes, the Spotlight is useful for providing enough light for color vision in low light. But you can turn off the feature, and the camera can still use regular (black and white) night vision.

In terms of availability - it might have been a while since you last checked, but the Outdoor Camera is fully back in stock right now. We encourage you to give it a try - don't forget the 60-day Money Back Guarantee!

And yes, unfortunately, with the release of the Outdoor Camera, the Outdoor Kit for the Indoor Camera is no longer available.

@zimerclan In the setting you can switch off the LED light if you wish.

Sadly where I live there are weeks during the summer where it is over 113F day after day.  Put something in the sun with electronics inside and I think an outdoor camera will cook.

@s13n the Outdoor Camera is shielded a little bit, and is designed to withstand all weather conditions between -4ºF  and 122ºF!

Hello, is there any way to only receive notifications when the system is armed (home & away)? I don't want notifications every few minutes I'm hanging out in my backyard. Only when the alarm is set.

@SamB right now, the Outdoor Camera does not respond to the system's armed state and is active at all times.

@sugakuga this sounds like a connectivity issue with your WiFi router. Unfortunately, it would be best to troubleshoot when you're back home. Have you already been working with our Support team? When you're available, I can put you in touch with a senior agent.

I'm home and my camera still malfunctions at night.  Clips are 3 minutes long and they record every three minutes.  In other words, I have dozens of failed video clips to delete every morning.  Every single video, instead of playing, shows a message that the video has not uploaded.  There are NO connectivity problems with wife, and again, the camera only malfunctions this way at night.

Just got an outdoor camera installed and the battery doesn’t make 24 hours. The spotlight and status light are turned off. Picture quality is set to 720p. Motion detection is on. What should I try next to make my camera useable? Thanks.

Color at night?  SMH.... all I get is B&W.

@benjaminkurata , do you have the Spotlight enabled for your Outdoor Camera? That would be necessary for the color night vision to function, because it needs a bit more visible light in the scene.

It would be helpful for SimpliSafe to inform potential customers that the outdoor cameras must communicate via Radio Frequency (RF) with the Base Station in order to  "wake up" the camera and analyze the video. Certain building materials block RF (such as metal or block).  A SimpliSafe base unit inside a metal building (or other obstructive material) will likely NOT communicate  with the outside cameras, as the RF is blocked.  A metal barn or metal shop building with no windows is a prime example , the RF signal is unable to transmit between the base inside and the camera outside.  I believe SimpliSafe is aware of this concern.  Is there a solution?  Is there an RF antenna wire that can be run from inside a metal building to the outside camera?
