Privacy shutter stays open in "Off" mode when set to be open in Home or Away mode

Brand new system, installed today.  Have been testing privacy shutter on cameras. Have tested and taken images of the results several times.  When privacy shutter is set to open in Away and/or Home mode, it stays open in Off mode as well. Cameras also record videos in Off mode.

My images include settings and camera apertures. All taken within a few seconds of one another to document what I've described.

I hope someone at SimpliSafe can explain how/why this is happening, and/or help me permanently rectify this.

I'm being harassed/stalked by a cult-like criminal outfit with sophisticated cyber capacity. Originally this was to disrupt my research and corrupt/remove data. Now that I have strong password protection and a reliable firewall, it's more to stalk/frighten, and tie me down to protect home/property. Police won't act without camera images which I've worked hard to get, but have not yet succeeded. I have evidence of a few entries and altered recordings when I left a streamed movie on while gone. I have recordings taken over ~1.5 hours that have extreme disruptions and discontinuities in the sound and video over a 20-30 minute period. I'm concerned hacking SimpliSafe cameras may also be well within their arsenal.

Since sending the above message, I've been unable to close the shutter on either of my cameras. Booooo!

Hello kalliekeith,

Sounds like your cameras aren't saving settings correctly. Try un-setting that configuration (with the shutter open in Home and Away, but closed in Off), then re-setting it.

You can also try resetting the cameras by holding the button on the top for 16 seconds. When you release, it'll go back to setup mode, and you can use the app to set each one up again.

But please don't worry. All signals coming from your cameras (and your system) are fully encrypted in transit and at rest. So even if an intruder managed to intercept that data, all they would get is garbled info. Nobody is getting into your system without your permission.

I'm not worried about encrypted data being "stolen", I'm worried about the signal being disrupted or blocked altogether.  I had an "Device Connection Problem" for several hours tonight. The system doesn't work if the cameras can't communicate. The app was jammed and completely dysfunctional until about an hour or so ago.  I was able to sign up for monitoring on my computer, but trying to switch modes on the computer also didn't work until shortly ago.

Ah, yes, that would be an  entirely different issue from the shutter. Sounds like both your system's Base Station, and cameras are also having trouble maintaining a connection with your WiFi, so we'll want to troubleshoot that.

One possible issue - do you know the upload speed for your internet service? We recommend about 1.5mbps per camera for best results. Since you have multiple cameras, having lower bandwidth might create a bottleneck, and prevent the app from receiving data from your system.

Of course, our Support team is always happy to troubleshoot more in-depth with you at 800-548-9508!
