Hi @sherrydurden59 ,

The Outdoor Camera uses a magnetic bracket. Is the magnet not holding on strongly? If so, we might just need to replace that bracket. Our Support team can help.

I am having the same issue with a camera that was purchased just a few weeks ago. The camera doesn't want to stay in place. It appears the magnet is letting the camera droop and point at the ground. I happened yesterday, and I repositioned the camera before I went to bed, and it was pointing at the ground again by the morning.

@CharlesKn I would suggest requesting a replacement for you as well! Our Support team can help.

So the new magnetic base helped, and the solar panel has helped with the camera not holding a charge for more than about 5 days, but the solar panel arm can't support the solar panel in place. I angle the solar panel to get more direct sunlight, but it just drops back down immediately.

We just reinstalled our outdoor camera in a new location to avoid getting smashed again by an addled pedestrian and we are having the same problem. It slips. It is on the wall but a new base might be the ticket. I am reading that the magnets are inconsistent at holding the camera in place... I would like to share the invoice of our purchase so the replacement part can be sent. thanks.

@adlsimmons if you contact our Support team, they can assist you with getting a new mount for your camera.

Ours won’t stay in place either.  It has been set up less than an hour.  This is a critical failure of an essential component.  Without being able to maintain the proper field of vision you basically have an expensive and useless paperweight mounted to your house.  There needs to be serious quality control measures put in place.

It’s also going to take a WEEK to get a replacement - meanwhile I have a failure in the security system because it isn’t working as advertised due to poor quality control.  Makes me wonder if system monitoring is treated with the same disregard.

I have had my camera for about two weeks and have had the same issue. It will stay in proper position for a little while and then it will be pointing straight down very disappointed with this, and if it continues to happen, will end up returning it, and go with a different device.

@buffjag have you already tried a replacement through our Support team? Like the previous posters, I suspect that you may have gotten a weak magnet, and we should get you a new one.

Another option would be to use the Permanent Mount, which you can find here. That actually uses the same 1/4"-20 screw that is the standard for tripods, so it's compatible with a lot of other third party mounting solutions as well.

I will reach out to customer support to request a new magnet. If that doesn’t do it, I will not spend additional money on the other bracket. If the magnet one doesn’t work, the permanent mount should be included with the base price of purchasing this camera.

I placed a little dab of silicone on the back of the camera where it has the indent for the base and positioned it the way I wanted..... seems to be working fine now and solved the problem of it moving on its own, need I take it down I can just twist at the base where it connects to the wall bracket.

Good afternoon. I had the weak-magnet issue and had SimpliSafe provide a replacement magnet (took a week). It is doing exactly the same thing. The camera is not set up at any kind of difficult angle - just upright and slightly to the side. It droops every day, turns upside down and points at nothing helpful.

SimpliSafe, please supplement your equipment with some sort of brace or stabilizer for these weak and evidently untested-for-market-use magnets.

@seanrthornton since it's happened twice now, I wonder if there might be an environmental issue that's affecting that magnet.

But an alternative option for you might be the Permanent Mount. It offers more stability, though it does take a little longer to unmount the camera itself if necessary.

Or, since it just uses the standard 3/8 screw mount that is common across camera tripods and similar accessories, you might even find a compatible third party mounting solution that would work just as well.

I just installed the camera and have tge same issue.  This is not a weak magnet issue but a design flaw.  I love the easy mount an unmount features with the magnet design but unfortunately it does not hold its position.  The solution to add a bracket should be included with the camera and unacceptable that Simplisafe is offering as an option but not sending for free to all having this issue.  I just installed and will continue to evaluate until my return date gets closer and if no resolution will return the entire system.

Mine are constantly drooping down. Within 1 hour of fixing it, it is pointing at the ground. Very frustrating and poor design. Will be sending them back.

@njohnson0927 sorry to hear that. We might just need to replace your magnetic bracket, or the whole camera. Pease contact our Support team and we'll take care of you!

just setup both of my cameras. Followed instructions. Both of them droop down pointing straight at the ground within 1 hour of correcting them. I bought the kit a couple months ago before closing on our new house so it’s outside the return window… I got hosed. Now I buy the permanent mount or they are paper weights. It’s a big design flaw. Might cancel service.

@KayleyV the magnetic mount should be able to hold onto the weight of the camera. Are you able to share any closeup photos here of how the camera and the mount are attached? We might be able to offer some advice.

Of course, our Support team can also help with some further options.

I just set up my new cameras and one of them droops after just a few minutes.  The magnet is not holding it in place just like everyone else is stating!

@laurastetsonphillips I would highly recommend contacting our Support team, as we may need to replace that magnetic mount, or the camera itself.

My outside cameras are not staying adjusted to where I want the to point. One is looking down to ground in minutes after being installed and adjusted.

@nursebubba2003 If the magnetic mount is not holding your camera in place, we may need to replace that mount completely. If you reach out to our Support team, they will be able to assist with this.

Having the same issue with my outdoor camera as well, the camera won't stay in the position I originally placed it in.

@treaunataylor Sorry to hear this! We may need to replace that magnetic mount entirely. If you reach out to our Support team, they can help you with that.

I'm having the same problem.

It doesn't hold its position even for 10 minutes.

It's a cool idea to have it be magnetic but it needs something else to hold it better.

I just bought this camera and installed it and I'm not impressed with the mount at all.

And I don't think a new magnet is going to change that because it's design flaw.

I did find a better alternative on Amazon. The 'Teccle Metal Wall Mount for SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera'.

In case anyone is here in 2025 wondering of this is is still happening, yes it is. Magent seems quite strong, I was actually impressed during the u boxing. But, set at the recommended angle, within 30 minutes the camera is pointed at the ground

@zbazarnick When attacking the magnetic mount to the mounting bracket, is it screwed in all the way? It may take some light force, but you'll know that it's screwed in completely when you hear it click into place and the magnetic can no longer move.

But if the mount is screwed in all the way, that may indicate an issue with the mount itself, as the camera certainly shouldn't be sliding down. In that case, please reach out to our Support team so they can send you a new one.

I’m also having the same issue. This isn’t the mount itself. The camera is too heavy for the magnetism at certain angles. Add environmental factors like heat, freezing weather, rain, etc then it’ll certainly cause slippage due to the strength if the magnets and lack of friction.

2 Messages

@simplisafe_admin you keep pointing to the mount being bad and should be replaced. It’s not the mount. Please acknowledge that there is an engineering design flaw that needs to be corrected. Every camera should come with both options. Redesign and reengineer the magnetic mounts with some type of friction or interlocking teeth at different angles. This is unacceptable and years later nothing has changed. This is a “you” problem and won’t be fixed until you stop denying the flaw and accept it’s a product issue that needs to be corrected.

Exactly the same problem as everybody described. Changed to new magnet (the black round thing), but still slipped. I have another outdoor camera that stayed in place, but this one doesn't even with new magnet. This is a design flaw. The tech support agent said he never heard of this issue, but this forum clearly documented this as an on-going issue. Does SimpliSafe have a solution?  New stronger magnet or change the material of the camera so it is not slippery?

@khkw Try the 'Teccle Metal Wall Mount for SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera' on Amazon. I've been using them for my cameras and they work perfectly. SimpliSafe should make something like these instead of the ball-joint kind they currently provide.

Hi there,

Sorry you are having an issue with the magnet / bracket.
It might not be the magnetism that is an issue, but rather the backplate that the magnet turns onto when fixed to the wall.
If the magnet pull to the camera is strong (and takes some force to remove the magnet) then usually the issue is because the magnet has not been turned onto the backplate fully. Once the camera is set on the magnet, the weight will cause the magnet to turn out of the backplate, causing the camera to 'slip'.

You should use some force to turn the magnet onto the backplate fully. Best to test this off the wall if you are able to.

Please come back and let us know if this resolved the issue you have been facing.

@Sav_SS I know what you are referring to, but that is not the problem. I made sure the magnet is clicked and secured onto the part that is screwed onto the wall. I know that if it didn’t click it would slip, but mine is not slipping. It is clearly that the weight of the camera is too much for the magnet to hold onto. Or that the material surface is too slippery.

@jjn_1 Thanks for the tip. I found the product online. Does that Teccle mount use the same screw holes as the original magnetic mount or do I need to drill new holes?
