Outdoor Camera provides aural warning when internal smoke alarm is triggered

A warning to others since there is NO documentation of this anywhere I have found. When a smoke alarm is triggered (in my case a false alarm due to sanding and painting), an alarm also sounds from any outdoor cameras that you may have. According to Tech Support on the phone, it should go off by itself when the alarm is cancelled but in my case, the camera's warning tones only stopped when I clicked to get a live picture from one of the cameras. The only way you can turn this feature off is on your phone app > cameras > settings (gear icon) > your camera name. In the Alarm Behavior section, turn off the Siren mode. It's hard to imagine that SimpliSafe would engineer this function and then not tell any customers that it exists or how to manage it.

I'll be the first to criticize SimpliSafe for lack of documentation but I can't imagine adding a new camera for the first time and then not checking the settings to see what it can do. It's on the first page, maybe 3/5 down the page and clearly states:

"Your camera speaker will sound a siren during an alarm"

Do people really add brand new hardware and not only accept default settings but just ... not look at settings at all?

Now, should that functionality be disabled by default? Absolutely. I don't know that, as a rule, people are outside enough that as a default behavior we'd want to know that an alarm went off inside while we were outside.

Well I will admit that I missed the sentence you quoted which is on the page that describes the system. It is not where I expected to find any information on the cameras after I purchased them. What I got with the cameras was instructions on setting them up. I’m a retired airline pilot. I crave documentation along with normal and abnormal operations. But there is no such animal on the Support page or User Manual where I would expect such information to be posted. Even if I should have known that a siren sounds during an alarm, nowhere am I told how to turn the darned things off once the alarm sounds. In my case, the alarm continued sounding for at least 5 minutes after I canceled the smoke alarm. The tech support person couldn’t even answer THAT question. So I stand by my statement that sufficient documentation is missing for this system.

You'll probably want to make a post in the suggestion forum about providing documentation for the mobile app. It's your best bet if you want SimpliSafe to provide a document on how to use the mobile app.

@worthing I might do that if I could figure out how to get there. I'm not a frequent visitor or user of forums and I'm not familiar with this one either. I'm hoping someone from SimpliSafe Support sees this thread and picks up the ball from there.
