Outdoor camera mount

I have just ordered a second camera and the outside mounting kit. Wondering if anyone else has ordered the outside mount and what experience they have had with it.

From what I've heard, it is a very nice mount, but the camera itself is not really suited for outdoor work even when enhanced with the "skin".  I'll keep looking for "better" outdoor camera solutions until SS comes out with one which will meet my needs.

So far it is working. Well, the camera survived its first rain storm last night. I would think that with the outdoor mounting kit, the camera would be as protected from the outside elements as would the door bell camera.

Wireless cameras when you do a lot of online research all seem to have similar nagging issues.

My SS3 doorbell is as good or slightly better than what I've seen online.

what I'm hoping for is a SS3 Poe (power over ethernet) camera option for the future.

Poe outdoor cameras have incredible resolution. Good to very good night vision depending on price.

I'm looking at a $89 unit.

Not sure I can wait for SS, but I do move slow these days.

Is the outdoor kit just a sleeve and power cable? I'm hoping to mount it to a wall. Is that included? Thanks!

There is a mounting bracket, which is allegedly very nice, as well.

The SimpliCam comes with a solid metal stand, intended for placing your camera on a shelf or other surface. Some customers have had success with using multiple adhesive strips to attach the camera to a wall, but we don't really recommend it.

The Outdoor Kit does provide both a protective sleeve and a wall mount, which also allows for a bit more articulation to get the best angle.

Do you have to run power or cord to it in some fashion?  I need to mount it where running power would be very difficult.  Note: I do not have the camera, only the one on the doorbell, which works great.

The indoor camera gets its power through a 10' USB cable and a small 5V power supply (like the kind you use to charge a cell phone).  The outdoor kit comes with the camera mount, rubber covers for the camera and power supply, and 25' USB power cable.  Data is transferred via wifi so you need to place the camera where you get decent signal.  If you can get a 120V extension cord within 25' of your camera you can make it work.

If you need a camera that works on batteries or solar power Ring makes them but you still have to be close to your wifi router or AP to capture video.

Note that the camera is USB powered.  You could get one of those large "mobile charger batteries" (good ones are not much bigger than a deck of cards) and plug the camera into that.  Maybe have two batteries, so one is charging while the other is powering the camera.

These work quite well.

I've got two of them for remote outdoor cameras and allthough they are not a true UPS backup, they do allow camera operation when no AC power is available.   Must be popular because the price has gone up $3 since I ordered mine.
