New outdoor camera

Just suggesting that simplisafe design a better outdoor camera, I know there are people out there who might agree. The doorbell camera is better than the actual camera at night. Does anyone know of a timeline on when they plan to release an outdoor camera? I'm hoping they're close to it.

@stevegutierrez89 the Simplicam was designed for indoor use only. The outside kit is, at best, a stop gap and accounts for its limited performance outside. (I should note the Simplicam works very well for indoor use -I have 3- and are tightly integrated with my SS3 system).  The doorbell camera works very well for outside use.  Other than that, outdoor cameras were said to be planned since  SS3 was launched in 2018 but nothing has been released yet.

As far as the what and when, possibly a friendly SS product manager will read this post and (gasp) actually reply?

Captain, I admire your optimism.  But we both know SS will never reply.  They don't have many failures, but communication is a total failure.

Steve, I would expect the outdoor camera sometime in the 21st century.  Just 80 more years to go!  ;^)  Seriously, SS has a history of taking forever to deliver new products.

The indoor camera works just fine outdoors in my experience, so long as it is protected from direct weather.  Put it under a roof or overhang or little box and it will work well.  I have one on my front porch and it's done/doing a great job.

I need a real outdoor camera. A key reason that I chose SimpliSafe over Ring was because SimpliSafe promised an outdoor camera in late 2019. Reading these posts, it sounds like they've been promising an outdoor camera for much longer. The indoor camera did not work for me for outdoor use due to the design of my home. It was exposed to the elements so much so that it rendered the outdoor casing useless. Ring's had an outdoor camera since at least mid 2018. It is mid 2020 and SimpliSafe still has no outdoor camera. Customer Service does not have any answers. Technical Support has no knowledge either. I've been told that my inquiries (at least 3 in the past year) have all been transferred to the proper department. I'm not confident as no one has ever reached out to me from SimpliSafe acknowledging the inquiry or to answer me. They don't even keep a log of the times you call in when you're having issues. It depends on the person you get if they feel like entering thorough notes. Otherwise, you spend a lot of time on hold waiting to explain your issue repeatedly. Not impressed with their customer service, ability to troubleshoot their own equipment, or lack of a real outdoor camera. Embarrassing for me when I'm the only one on my block with SimpliSafe... now I know why the others have Ring, ADT, Guardian, Arlo, Vivint... all have outdoor cameras.

Johnny M who works for Simplisafe did post earlier this past week that the SS dev team is actively working on cameras. Not much info but at least confirms they are working on them.

BTW, being a former ADT customer, I wouldn't be too envious of your neighbors who have them. No matter what equipment ADT offers (even if they had Star Trek transporters) I would never go with them again.

Count me as another who is waiting for a real outdoor camera. When I switched from ADT to SimpliSafe I expected an outdoor camera would be coming soon. Now that Google and ADT appear to be joining forces I think SimpliSafe needs to introduce a reliable and quality camera. I certainly don't want them to rush an inferior product to the market. But sooner would be nice.

I see that multiple people talk about a better camera. I have multple cameras are and happy with the simpli safe system overall. I believe the cameras are sub par mind you at 720P. Having one outside dosent pick up on things very clear at all. Simplisafe either need to design a camera thats at least 1080P minimum or purchase someone else`s and tie them into their system. This is the biggest lacking with the simpli safe system and i am at a point where i may need to purchase another system to get better outdoor camera function ability.

I'ed like a doorbell camera that works longer than 10 minutes. I've had two and both lasted about 10 minutes each before they were off line. Tech had me run through the manual of do this, do that, reset, soft reset, hard reset, etc. Hell I even checked the voltage on the doorbell wires making sure my transformer was within specs. Mine  was at 21.7 volts. Camera built to work with 16-24 volts. System has built in voltage regulator I believe. Any way both were sent back. Wifi-6  AX system was working fine. Have Simplisafe indoor camera 6 ft from doorbell and have no problem at all. I to would like some 1080p cameras for outside and in. Might have to look else where and have two systems with two Apps to look at instead. Simplisafe are you listening to your costumers !
Nest outdoor is a killer camera for it's night vision and general clarity.  I have a Nest system at home with 4x outdoor cams and it's great.  I have a Simplisafe system at the work warehouse and am hanging out for an outdoor version of the camera.   However, if the indoor camera's night vision performance is anything to go by, I'm not holding my breath - it's grainy anyway too dark  .The nest cams are way better.

Once again, exterior security is completely different from interior (barrier) security.  There is no reason and no benefit to having your exterior cameras attached to your security system.  Unless they are doing a complete redesign of their current camera architecture to handle the completely different needs of external security, their exterior cameras (if and when) will probably not be very good at external security.

Now that ADT has their own DYI alarm system, seems like they have a true outdoor camera with full HD resolution. I hope this pushes SimpliSafe to follow their lead...

Just got off the phone with a supervisor right now. I've demanded and got a full refund for the "outdoor" camera and housing.  In short, they're continuing to promise a fully functional exterior camera "soon" but they've lost all credibility promising one for as long as they have.

@texmex,

Yep, it's happening. We've got a bit more work to do, but of course we'll let you know when it's ready.
