Need help with SimpliSafe doorbell camera and existing chime(s)

Hello,

We moved into a new house a few months ago and I just installed a SimpliSafe home security system. Everything's done except for one big snag I ran into...

I removed our old doorbell, then installed the mounting plate and wiring for the SimpliSafe camera doorbell. Once I slid on the SimpliSafe device, the doorbell just kept ringing. I went inside and realized that the chime was coming from the NuTone intercom system that was already installed in the house. Huh.

There is a traditional doorbell chime in the house, and that's where I had installed the SimpliSafe Chime Connector. The SimpliSafe doorbell is not compatible with electrical chimes, so I guess I need to figure out how to get the doorbell routed to the traditional chime instead of the NuTone system.

I have no idea how to begin solving this. Can someone provide guidance? Thanks!

@malibu786 do you happen to know if the chime box you connected the Chime Connector to is a digital or mechanical chime?

The Video Doorbell Pro is only compatible with mechanical chimes; so if the chime box is digital, that could be the culprit. In that case, we recommend taking the Chime Connector down and installing it on a mechanical chime box.

@simplisafe_admin  Hi. The chime box I connected the Chime Connector to is mechanical. I know the photo isn't great, but the two metal plates on either side are for the "ding" and "dong".

The problem is that when the doorbell is pressed, it's bypassing the mechanical chime and going to the NuTone intercom system, which is playing a digital chime. I pulled out the mechanical chime and confirmed the wiring is connected, but I don't know how to re-route the doorbell to the mechanical chime.

@malibu786 got it - thank you for that clarification! It sounds like your doorbell wiring may be connected to your digital chime instead of the mechanical chime, which is causing this issue.

In this case, we would recommend contacting a licensed electrician to take a look at your setup. That way, they can check the wiring and re-wire your doorbell to your mechanical chime box if needed.
