Is there a way to have my SimpliSafe Doorbell make my base station chime when someone answers the door?

I have a simpliSafe doorbell where I only have power running to it. There is no chime connected to the SimpliSafe doorbell. Is there a way to have my base station chime when someone rings my doorbell?

Hi @andrewbrodginski ,

Yes. If your Video Doorbell Pro is associated with a SimpliSafe Alarm system in the SimpliSafe app, then pressing the button should be generating a doorbell chime on the Base Station. The setting can be found in the SimpliSafe app, under Menu > My System > General Settings.

I am not showing that option in the app. I just got the system a week ago and it’s not ringing on base station

@jasonjlichtenberg If you navigate to the three bar menu ≡ in the upper left corner of the app > My System > Camera Settings > [your Video Doorbell], you do not see an option for the Base Station Chime? If you don't, I would try removing the Video Doorbell from your system and add it back.

Hello, our base station does chime and is on the top volume in the app both for the base station and doorbell and we can still not hear it if someone rings - can we buy something to chime properly instead as it’s driving us crazy and even the much cheaper ring camera had a separate chime you could buy but I can’t see anything? We literally miss our door going every time if we’re not downstairs…

@Linz_eye thanks for your feedback. The Video Doorbell Pro was designed to plug into an existing wired doorbell system, so it relies on that internal bell for sound. The Base Station can echo that bell, but we have no other components that can do that.

If you're really not hearing the bell from the Base Station at all though, that's a different thing. We might need to troubleshoot the Base Station to test if it's actually able to make sounds, and double-check that the Doorbell setting is enabled on it. Our Support team can help with more steps.

I had to install doorbell wiring as my residence did not have a doorbell prior to  moving in. If I want the chime to go to the base station, do I need to install a chime to then install the Chime Connector?

@loganvankatwyk If the Base Station Chime setting is enabled, the Base Station should make a sound whenever the Video Doorbell Pro is rung. You can enable or edit this setting in the SimpliSafe Mobile App by going to My System > Cameras > select [your Video Doorbell Pro] > Base Station Chime > drag your finger along the slider bar to select your desired volume.

A mechanical chime and the Chime Connector are also important parts of the Video Doorbell Pro's setup. The mechanical chime acts as a resistor to protect both the Video Doorbell Pro and your transformer, and the Chime Connector ensures that proper voltage is delivered to the Video Doorbell Pro.

Hello. So, do you need a mechanical chime yes or no? I see a lot of comments here that says you, you don't, It's not working. Your support staff say yes you need it, no you don't. I am confused. I am looking into buying a camera doorbell and I would like it to be a Simplisafe one since I already have a Simplisafe system. I have no existing wiring and no mechanical chime. The wiring is not the issue, I can run power to it no problem. It's the mechanical chime that I don't have. I would really hate to have to get another brand doorbell and have to install another app just for that.

@rmoreta45 the Video Doorbell Pro does require a mechanical chime. The mechanical chime acts as a resistor - without one it could cause damage to the Video Doorbell Pro or transformer. You can learn more about the Video Doorbell Pro's requirements in our Help Center.
