Doorbell wont work, Yellow light

After wiring up the base, I connect the camera and the doorbell rings (inside) and the camera just glows yellow for approx. 5 seconds, then shuts off. I have rewired the base a few times, reset the camera, and let it charge for an hour plus and nothing works.

What does the yellow light mean? What does the small button next to the larger reset button do?  Ideas on how to get this thing to finally work?  Please help.

Solid yellow usually means your camera is updating, and blinking yellow means your camera has connected to Wi-Fi, but cannot connect to internet. Make sure your camera isn't too far from your Wi-Fi router.

okay ladies and gentlemen. for the ones who are having problems with the doorbell this is what i did to fix the issue.
i was having the same problem as everyone else was. so what i did i plugged the camera up to my computer using the usb. then i held the reset button down until the light turned from yellow to red or vice versa. i didn't release it until i heard it go through the prompt saying you camera is ready to be paired. i released the button, and finished up the install by connecting it to the internet through my phone and used bar code to finish up. still having my doorbell plug in via usb. after it connected and updated its working. hope this helps everyone.

This actually worked for me! But when I unplug it from my computer and pop it back on the mounting bracket (mine is hardwired) it is disconnect ed from the internet or offline rather and I can’t figure out how to reconnect it without going through the same steps using my computer to reset it. Guess I’ll be making another call to SimpliSafe. At least I know that my doorbell is not broken and I shouldn’t have to purchase another one! Which is what they suggested I do! Thank you for posting this!

Just an FYI in case someone else stumbles upon this post. I did what the poster above suggested, and was able to reset my doorbell by plugging the USB into my computer. Once I did that, I used a Wi-Fi extender, and although the signal is fair on my doorbell, it works.  The signal was fair before, so I’m not sure the Wi-Fi extender is really doing much to help. I was able to reinstall the doorbell and everything works fine now. I’m able to see videos, and people who approach my door in real time now. SimpliSafe told me my doorbell was broken and wanted me to buy a new one. I’m so glad I didn’t waste my money. I knew there was nothing wrong with this one because it worked before I reached out to technical support for help!  The doorbell itself worked I just wasn’t able to view videos in real time.

Yellow Light

I too have a new Doorbell Camera that is showing a Yellow Light. i talked to Support people 2 different ones. They tried to resolve my issue, but have been unable, and have actually sent me a new one which received today and it still does not work.

I have mounted the Doorbell, let it sit for multiple hours, etc. I still have a yellow light that slowly goes off and on, about twice a minute or so. It will not go past that point. I have redone wiring several times and it is in good shape. The doorbell in my house is in good working order (until i connected to the SS Doorbell).

The Support people that I talked to could not find any information about a yellow light, only red and white lights they said.

Now I see that this may be a distance issue. Seriously?? My doorbell is about 30 feet from my router. If there is a documented maximum, anybody know what the limit is supposed to be?

I love my SimpliSafe system and it is working flawlessly, but the doorbell ain't getting it done..

Any and all ideas appreciated. If I cant get it done soon, I will be sending the 2nd one I received back to them and the original one that i received last week is going back as well.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Hi Bill,

As mentioned in the reply above yours, constant yellow light means that the Camera is updating.

But a blinking yellow light means that the Camera has connected to your WiFi router, but is not able to get through the router to our website. It is possible at your router's firewall is blocking that communication.

If you're unfamiliar with how to unblock specific connections on your router, you might want to reach out to your ISP.

Johnny,

What are the "specific ports" you speak of for connecting?
I'm happy to open things up, but the doorbell is no longer connecting to my router. It was previously.
Thanks

Hi mmacdonough115,

You might want to try outgoing TCP port 8890.

You could whitelist your SimpliCam's MAC address as well. If you give our Support team a call at 1-888-957-4675, they can let you know your SimpliCam's MAC address based on your order info.

Hi Johnny,
I'm having the same problem with both doorbells installed today. I called tech support and was told the information on this thread is incorrect and that's it's an installation issue. That the wall plate is bent. They wall plates aren't bent. It also doesn't make sense as both doorbells are acting identically. How can I get the info to whitelist the doorbell devices?

Update: I reinstalled front bell. But removed the mounting bracket to see if it was the bending issue. The wires connected to the bracket created a circuit. I know this because the door bell rang inside when I connected the doorbell to the bracket. But will not ring when I press the doorbell button. So clearly, the button is not completing the circuit. Called support. They are sending me a chime connector which they say should remedy all issues.

@mbg786

Glad to hear that you had it figured out! One thing I didn't mention above is that the Video Doorbell Pro does display a yellow light while booting up. So if something is wrong with the wiring, it might show that light before failing to boot entirely.

Hopefully that chime connector does the trick.

I installed my doorbell the other day and I am experiencing the blinking yellow light issue.  When I put the doorbell on the base it shows the yellow light and it makes a sound that I recognize from when I installed my indoor camera.  It is the sound where the camera is trying to say "Okay, camera is ready to set up", but it is like it can't complete the action.  I suspect that this is a wiring issue and maybe it is not getting the power it needs to completely boot up. My installation looks okay, wires aren't touching or anything, but I am wondering if there is something wrong with my doorbell system in general and I should have an electrician come out and look at it? Any advice? Side note, I do know my existing chime needs to be replaced, but I don't think that should be affecting the camera function, right?

I did take the doorbell off the base and plugged in to a power source using the microUSB port and waited for it to charge a little bit. I then set up the camera on my SS app hoping that if I got it set up, I could put it back on the base and it would be good to go, but when I put it back on the base, the app could not connect to the camera anymore.

I did call customer service and the girl I talked to didn't sound like she knew what she was talking about.  She told me to try to set up the camera in the app while it was blinking yellow and I tried to humor her, but it obviously wasn't working.  She didn't have any other suggestions for me and at that point I didn't have anymore time to deal with it that day.

I have been looking forward to the SS doorbell for months now, so I really don't want to have to send it back but I don't know what the best course of action is at this point.

We cant get our doorbell to connect to the app. After hitting the reset button, we get a solid yellow light for about 3 to 5 seconds and then nothing.... nothing at all after that. nothing. nada. nothing.
any ideas?

I'm having the same issue of yellow light coming on for five seconds every two minutes. They sent me a chime connector. After installing the connector it's yellow for five and off for five seconds and I hear the camera click every time the light comes on. Last guy I talked to who sent me the chime connector sounded like he knew what he was talking about.  But I'll have to wait until weekend to call them.

I have this issue as well.  I tried another doorbell with the same results.  I asked Customer Support for a 'chime connector' and she didn't know what I was talking about. I will try trinth's solution

I'm having the same issue, currently waiting on a replacement.

First Doorbell:
Removed from box, plugged into USB power, connected to my wifi and was able to connect to it from the SimpliSafe app. Camera seemed to be working fine. Took it to the front door, shut off the breaker to the doorbell. Installed everything, then flipped the breaker back on. I got the brief yellow ring and then nothing. My doorbell will ring, but nothing going on with the camera. I tried reseating the mounting bracket, reconnecting the wires, I tried the reset button for 10 seconds, nothing worked. I even just left it alone for 30 minutes and came back to it thinking it needed to charge.  I took it back inside and plugged it back into USB power and then it wouldn't come on at all. Called Simplisafe and they had me try the reset button for 60 seconds and then said I needed to leave it plugged in for 2 hours and they would call me back. Now I'm waiting for a replacement.

Just curious if anyone got theirs working when connected to the doorbell wiring?

I had the doorbell for about 8 months. I had only problems with it. Most of the time will say disconnected or offline and randomly return back online. After reset was working for a short period of time or not working at all. I got 4 of these devices under warranty, all 4 same issues. I even changed the power transformer and wires even moved the damn router literally behind the wall. Absolut nothing, same issues. I have a mesh network around the house with 1 GB speed and 45MB upload so that is not the issue, the signal is not the issue, the power is not the issue. I even have 2 devices connected wirelessly in my garage further away and still, have a great wifi signal. The issue without a doubt is the device. There are so many complains about this device on this forum is not even funny anymore. Is just a bad device no matter what simplisafe will tell you. I got tired of customer services calls and replacements every other week or a couple of weeks. I got a Nest Hello and I wish I have done it a lot sooner. Works great, zero issues, same location, the same WIFI and the same wires and transformer. It also has much better detection and features. 169$ I paid for simplisafe doorbell and unfortunately is just a piece of junk. Nest is a bit more expensive but is just better in every way. Simplisafe gave me a couple of months of free monitoring because of this issue, is still something. do yourself a favor and don't buy the video doorbell
