Do you happen to have an Arris-branded router? If so, there's a known compatibility issue with some models of that brand. The fix is in the later version of the firmware. The only problem is, you'll need to have WiFi connected to install that firmware.
A possible workaround is to take the Base Station and Keypad to a place where there is a different WiFi network. Or if you have the ability to set up a WiFi hotspot on your phone, you can use that.

After connecting, you can follow the instructions on this page to update.
Even if you don't have an Arris router, though, it's worth updating since the latest firmware does have improvements to the WiFi system.
