To test both sensors and they respond okay, and then get the not connected message is indeed weird. I would call SS to troubleshoot and if necessary replace them under warranty.
I did end up calling Simplisafe. They had me remove and readd the devices. Not sure if they did anything else on their end (clear the error messages, possibly?), but this resolved the issue.
To clarify though, that Error warning happens at any time when a component fails its regular check-ins with the Base Station. Low battery could cause that, but most of the time it's interference - that is, something is getting in the way of the signal. That can be either physical objects like walls or heavy appliances blocking, or other wireless signals causing noise in the environment.
If you ever see the error warning again, particularly for those sensors, we'll want to troubleshoot interference further.
