dog tripping motion sensor

I called support number about our short, 25 lb dog, tripping the motion sensor. They recommended that we move the sensor to 5 ft. height and install it upside down. I recently read that a burglar in our city was able to bypass the sensor by crawling into the house and robbed the place.

So, I don't want to go with the recommendation.

Is there any other solution to this, or do I return Simplisafe products for another company?

HI @shinnquist ,

It helps to know the details of how the Motion Sensor works, to better understand your setup options.

First, the Motion Sensor is the passive infrared type. Basically, it works by sensing heat that is passing through its field of view. So it's not so much the size of the object that matters, but the amount of heat it's able to generate. Related to this, there's a "Sensitivity Switch" in the back of each Motion Sensor that changes the threshold at which the sensor is able to trigger. For example, setting it to "L" (for Low) means that it needs an even bigger heat signature to trigger. That might be a good thing to try first.

Next thing to note is the viewing angles for the field of view. It goes left and right and down at 45º, but not up. That's why for pets, we suggest that you flip it upside-down and move it lower on the wall - so it completely misses your dog, but will catch anything at people-height.

You're right, if the burglar was crawling around, they would be missed as well. Though keep in mind that they'd have to know that you have a security system, let alone where every Motion Sensor is set up, on top of all the other sensors and cameras you have set up. So long as you have layers of security, likelihood of an intruder getting past all of that is very slim!
