Basement window entry sensor too far from router

I have a small basement window that leads out to a rear patio. i have an entry sensor on it but it is too far from the router which is on the second floor. I assume a wifi extender might help but which one works well with the simplisafe system?

Ok, so the sensors don't talk to your router.  They only talk to the base station.  The base station (if its the latest SS3) talks to the router.  So if a sensor is too far away you'll need to move the base station closer to that sensor.  There is no repeater for this function.  What makes you think it's too far away?  I have sensors in neighboring buildings that work flawlessly.

Doesn't the whole system use my wi-fi to communicate? The base station is on the first floor in the kitchen and the sensor in question is in the basement. When i take the key pad downstairs in order to rename the sensor it looses the ability to communicate with the base station

No.  The only wifi communication is base station to router and cameras also use wifi.  All other sensors talk to the base station with their own proprietary wireless protocol, including the keypads.  The keypad range is not as good as the sensors so try taking that sensor upstairs to name it, then install it in the basement and test.  It'll probably work fine.

Try slowly opening and closing the window, then see if the message disappeared.  If it didn't, or you keep getting that message, re-adjust the sensor and magnet so that they are slightly closer together and more flush on the surface you attached them to.  The magnet and sensor should not be more than 2 inches apart, you may have to put them a fraction of an inch closer together.

Seems to be working now. Like it was suggested i brought the sensor upstairs and renamed it using the keypad. I then reinstalled it in a slightly different configuration. The error message has gone away as well
