Smoke detector placement in addition to hardwired system

As I'm sure is the case in many places, code requires smoke detectors to be hardwired here so we have a system in place with one in each hallway and one in each bedroom all interconnected. I do though like the idea that the Simplisafe detector would notify monitoring in the event we weren't home so I've purchased two just as an additional layer. Should I just put them right next to the ones in the hallways? Would they interfere in any way? Any other ideas on placement? Thanks!

Hi @harris1996 ,

I can tell you our standard recommendation for Smoke Detectors in general, which is to have one on each floor. If you have a hallway in between bedrooms, that's a good spot.

Though we would suggest that you also avoid placing detectors directly in front of a vent, in very dusty rooms (garages, basements, etc.), or right in front of a door to a bathroom (because of potential steam). All of those could potentially cause false alarms.

@harris1996 They won't intefere with your system, but it can add up to quite a bit of money to be redundant with each wired unit. I have a smoke sensor on each floor and one in each bedroom and work well ( make sure you clean them with compressed air at least every other month).  That said, I would put at least one on each floor.

Thank you. Yeah I don’t intend to duplicate the whole system. Our house is one story so we put one up outside each sleeping area. Just a little extra assurance!
