Wi-Fi Troubleshooting

How to Improve Upload Speed?

Your SimpliSafe System requires a good internet connection to maintain connectivity with your devices. Our recommended upload speeds vary by the video resolution utilised by the cameras in your system and are as followed:

1080p - 2 mb/sec/camera

720p - 1.5 mb/sec/camera

480p - 1 mb/sec/camera

Check Your Bandwidth

As a first step, you should check your camera’s bandwidth by running the connection check tool in the SimpliSafe® Mobile App. This tool measures the connectivity between your camera and the modem, based on where it’s currently located. Results will differ if the camera or modem are moved.

  1. Open the SimpliSafe® App on your phone or tablet

  2. Select My System from the navigation bar on the bottom of the screen

  3. Select Camera Settings

  4. Choose your camera

  5. Scroll down through the camera’s settings and then choose Connection Check

  6. Select Start Connection Check

If Your Upload Speed is 2 Mbps or Higher

Other Wi-Fi-enabled devices on your network can take up bandwidth. If your results show that your upload speed is 2 Mbps or more, try moving your non-SimpliSafe® devices to another network, like a 5GHz band or a separate guest network to reduce potential congestion. If you do not know how to do that, please contact your internet service provider.

If Your Upload Speed is Less Than 2 Mbps

If your upload speed is less than 2 Mbps, try reducing the camera’s video resolution. Lowering the resolution will slightly decrease the amount of detail in the image, but also means that your camera will use less bandwidth.

You can adjust your camera’s video quality in the SimpliSafe® Mobile App by taking the following steps:

  1. Open the SimpliSafe® Mobile App on your phone or tablet

  2. Select My System from the navigation menu at the bottom of the screen

  3. Select Camera Settings

  4. Choose your camera you wish to customise

  5. Select Video Quality

  6. Choose either 720p or 480p

If adjusting the camera’s video quality did not help, please reach out to your internet service provider to discuss adding additional bandwidth to your network.
