Smoke Detector

How Does the Smoke Detector Respond During an Alarm

When the Smoke Detector detects particulate consistent with smoke, it will produce a siren as well as the following products:

  • Base Station

  • Extra Siren

  • Wireless Outdoor Security Camera

  • Outdoor Security Camera Series 2

  • Wireless Indoor Security Camera

After the alarm has sounded, two things will happen at once, depending on your monitoring plan (opens in new tab). The first Primary Contact(s) (opens in new tab) of that location will receive an Alarm Text (opens in new tab), and the first Primary Contact will also receive a phone call from the monitoring center. Alarm Texts for life safety events are only to alert you of the hazard, and cannot be used to cancel the alarm or request dispatch.

For the phone call placed to the first Primary Contact for your system, you will be able to cancel the alarm for smoke over the phone without the need for your Safe Word (opens in new tab), or place a request for dispatch from your local fire department. You can also cancel by disarming your system with your PIN at the Keypad. If you do not answer the phone or cancel the alarm at your Keypad in a timely manner, our monitoring team will automatically request dispatch from your local fire department, who will be dispatched to the location address on file for your SimpliSafe® system.

If you would like to place a request for dispatch from your local fire department, you can do that over the phone with a Monitoring agent, by replying “H” to our Alarm Text, or by requesting help in the SimpliSafe® app using the Alarm Screen feature (opens in new tab).

We encourage you to save the monitoring center number to your phone so you never miss our call. That number is 855-693-4911.

Once saved to your phone, you’ll also want to allow us access to bypass Do Not Disturb and Silent Profiles (opens in new tab). This allows for Critical Alarm Notifications to get through to you, regardless of your phone’s volume or profile status.
