How does SimpliSafe® Protect my Privacy?

Your Privacy is Our Promise!

We know that keeping your trust matters. That's why we protect your privacy just as vigilantly as your home or business.

Unlike many other home security providers, SimpliSafe® isn’t owned by or partnered with Big Tech. We’re an independent home security company that believes in your right to control your data. Our only business is your safety.

That’s why when you set up your system, we give you choices on how your system data is shared and used. It’s how we can help ensure you get the products, services and security you want.

Privacy By Design

We engineered your system to provide advanced security features and design it to look great in any setting, we've thought just as carefully about how to integrate privacy features into every component we create.

Consider these subtle but powerful privacy features:

  • All of our indoor cameras have a mechanical privacy shutter that is closed by default when your system is not armed, and audibly clicks open and closed to help ensure you know when they are in use.

  • When your system is armed (“Home” or “Away”) you can control the shutter behavior (opens in new tab) based on your preferences.

  • Our outdoor cameras allow you to set activity zones (opens in new tab) so you can control which areas will or will not trigger recordings.

  • On any equipment with two-way audio (opens in new tab), you can choose to disable the microphone and speaker at any time, for any reason.

All of this means that you have security when you need it, and privacy when you want it.

You Control Your Data

We improve our products and services by collecting certain system data, but we never lose sight of the fact that it’s your data, and you should have control and transparency about how and where it's used. That's why:

Law Enforcement Requests

SimpliSafe® does not provide any level of law enforcement with customer video recordings  without a valid warrant, subpoena or court order. We have a long-standing commitment to privacy. Any requests from law enforcement for any video recordings, must go through us. This means no “backdoor” or ad hoc access. We don’t have any automatic systems in place for local or federal law enforcement to access our customers’ video recordings.

Our legal team reviews any request from law enforcement and only provides information in accordance with applicable law(s).
