When do SimpliSafe® Life Safety Devices Expire?

In accordance with National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) guidance, SimpliSafe® recommends replacing Smoke Detectors and Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Listeners every ten years, and replacing Carbon Monoxide Detectors every five years.

How do I know when to replace my SimpliSafe® Smoke and/or Carbon Monoxide Detectors and Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Listeners?

Your life safety devices need to be routinely cleaned (opens in new tab), tested, and even replaced after certain intervals, in addition to battery replacement.

  • SimpliSafe® CO Detectors (including Smoke/CO Detectors) need to be replaced within ten (10) years of the manufacture date (found on the label on the back of your device)

  • Smoke Detectors need to be replaced with ten (10) years of the manufacture date (found on the label on the back of your device)

  • Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Listeners do not expire, but they should be re-tested (opens in new tab)every three (3) years of the manufacture date (found on the label on the back of your device)
