Using Your System

What Sounds Does My SimpliSafe® System Make?

Watch this video for a hands-on look at system audio cues, to better understand how your system will respond in daily usage and during an alarm

Keypad Audio Cues

Entry and Exit Delays

When you enter your home or business through a door that is armed and equipped with an Entry Sensor, the entry countdown will begin and your Keypad will emit a vibration where its frequencies sound like a slow but steady beeping noise. You’ll also hear the same audio cue play when you arm your system into Home or Away mode.

Base Station Audio Cues

During an Alarm

The Base Station will emit a high pitch, oscillating siren to sound the alarm when a device is triggered on your system. The siren duration is determined by your Base Station Settings (opens in new tab), and can be adjusted at any time within the SimpliSafe® Mobile App (opens in new tab). If you have an Extra Siren added to your system, you’ll also hear the Base Station relay the siren to that device, to alert neighbors and passerbys of the potential emergency at your location. Panic Button based alarms will also sound the alarm sound you heard in the video above, unless you have set the Panic Button to Silent or Duress.

Entry Sensor Sound from the Base Station

Whenever an Entry Sensor is opened or closed, the Base Station will emit a two-tone chime to alert you of activity at your location. You can alter this setting to be off for different arming states, adjust it to be a name announcement (opens in new tab) instead, or even tailor it to be a secret alert (opens in new tab) meaning no audio will play but you will receive a notification alerting you to the activity.

Base Station Trouble Signal

The trouble signal (opens in new tab) is a three-tone warning that is emitted from the Base Station to alert you of system status issues - such as a low battery on a device or wireless interference. You should work to resolve the underlying system issue and can learn more about what’s wrong on the overview tab in the SimpliSafe® Mobile App (opens in new tab). However, you can also turn off this warning using the SimpliSafe® Mobile App (opens in new tab) under Base Station Settings (opens in new tab).

Life Safety Devices Audio Cues

Smoke Detector Audio Cues

Your Smoke Detector will sound the alarm from itself with three-distinct beeps in close succession of each other, followed by a short pause before repeating the sequence.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector Audio Cues

The Carbon Monoxide Detector will sound the alarm from itself by chirping quickly four times then pausing before resuming and repeating the sequence. Carbon Monoxide is a serious and life-threatening odorless gas, and should be taken seriously. You should evacuate your location immediately and wait for help to arrive.

Environmental Audio Cues

The Base Station will also play audio cues when an environmental sensor is tripped, such as a Temperature or Water Sensor. It will beep 3 times in succession then announce the sensor type by name. For example, “Freeze Sensor, Triggered” for a Temperature Sensor related issue at your system’s location.
