How to get a Permit for a SimpliSafe® Security System

The SimpliSafe® Online Account will advise you if you need to apply for a permit with your local municipality. If the Online Account advises you need a permit, there are 2 key steps you’ll need to take. 

1. First, you’ll need to work with your local municipality to obtain a permit, and if required, you’ll pay the registration fee to your municipality.

2. Next, you’ll need to register your permit information with SimpliSafe®, so that we have it should an alarm occur at the location of your system.

If your municipality requires you to apply for a permit, you’ll need to contact your municipality for further assistance. Please note that different towns and cities refer to alarm permits as different names. Below is a short list of some of the most common names:

Different municipality permit registration forms can ask for different information. Below are several pieces of information you may need to provide to your municipality.

If the form is requesting other information, here are the answers to a few commonly asked questions on your permit application: 

Type of alarm: Burglary, panic, audible, silent. Please also select “Fire” if you have a SimpliSafe Smoke and/or Carbon Monoxide Detector

Does the alarm reset itself?: Yes

What is the reset time?: This defaults to 4 minutes but is configurable in your Base Station settings. You can set the reset time from 30 seconds to 8 minutes. Please check on your permit application or your local ordinance to verify what your municipality allows.
