Video Doorbell Series 2

The Video Doorbell Series 2 Won't Ring

When the Video Doorbell Series 2 is rung, you will hear a chime from one of two places, depending on the type of chime box you have. If you have a mechanical chime, you will hear the Video Doorbell ring from the chime box*. If you have a digital chime or are using a plug-in power adapter to keep the Video Doorbell charged, you will hear the ring from the Base Station only.

If you do not hear a chime when the Video Doorbell is rung, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

*The Base Station Chime setting is turned off by default for mechanical chimes. If you have a mechanical chime and would like the Base Station to make a sound when the Video Doorbell is rung, that can be customized in the SimpliSafe® Mobile App. Please refer to the Base Station Does Not Sound When the Video Doorbell is Rung section to learn more.

The Chime Box Does Not Ring

If your mechanical chime box does not make a sound when the doorbell is rung, it could be due to one of two reasons. Either the Video Doorbell isn’t getting sufficient power, or the incorrect chime type was selected when installing the device.

Check if the Video Doorbell is Getting Power

To see if the Video Doorbell is powered up, ring the doorbell. If the chime box does not make a sound and the LED Ring around the doorbell’s button doesn’t show a white light, that indicates that the device is not getting power.

To resolve this, you will need to check that the doorbell wiring connected to the device is secure.

  1. Turn off the power to the Video Doorbell at your circuit breaker

  2. Using the included security tool, remove the security screw at the bottom of the Video Doorbell

    1. Please do not use a Phillips head screwdriver to try and remove the security screw. If you no longer have your security tool, you can also use a T5 Torx screwdriver

  3. Lift the Video Doorbell up and off its mounting bracket

  4. Confirm that the doorbell wires are securely connected underneath the terminal screws on the back of the Video Doorbell

    1. If you needed to use the wire extensions, please also confirm that they are connected to both your doorbell wiring and the terminal screws on the back of the Video Doorbell

  5. After adjusting your doorbell’s wiring, place the Video Doorbell back on its mounting bracket, put the security screw back in place, and turn the power back on to the doorbell at your circuit breaker

  6. Ring the doorbell again

If your chime box still does not ring, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.

The Chime Box Does Not Sound And The LED Ring Does Not Light Up

If the chime box does not ring and the LED Ring does not light up once the doorbell’s button is pressed, it is likely that the Video Doorbell is not getting supplied with enough power. The Video Doorbell requires a transformer rated for 16-24VAC, 10-30VA - it cannot be used with transformers that supply a lower voltage. Please check your transformer’s voltage with a multimeter to see if it aligns with our requirements. If you are not sure how to do this, we recommend contacting a licensed electrician in your area.

The Chime Box Does Not Sound But The LED Ring Lights Up

If the LED Ring lights up, but the chime box still does not sound, it could be that the incorrect chime type was selected when installing the Video Doorbell.

The Video Doorbell is compatible with both digital and mechanical chimes, but if you selected the digital chime option in the SimpliSafe® app when installing the doorbell, it can cause the chime box to not make a sound when the doorbell is rung.

You can check the type of chime you selected for the Video Doorbell in the SimpliSafe® app by going to:

  1. My System on the bottom right corner of the screen

  2. Select Camera Settings

  3. Select your Video Doorbell

  4. Tap Chime Type

The SimpliSafe® app will display what chime type was selected during installation. If the Digital chime option was selected, adjust it to Mechanical and then tap Save on the upper right corner of the screen.

After confirming that the mechanical chime option was selected in the SimpliSafe® app, you must confirm that the Chime Connector was installed to your chime box.

  1. Locate your doorbell’s chime box and remove the cover

    1. If you see a device with white wires connected to the terminal screws on your chime box, you correctly installed the Chime Connector and can stop here

    2. If you see blue wires connected to the terminal screws, the jumper wires were incorrectly installed. Please proceed with the following steps to install the Chime Connector

  2. Remove any existing wiring that you have already installed

  3. Open the SimpliSafe® app on your phone or tablet

  4. Navigate to My System on the bottom right corner of the screen

  5. Select Camera Settings, and then choose your Video Doorbell Series 2

  6. Select Chime Connector Installation and then follow the on-screen instructions to install your Chime Connector

The Doorbell Chime is Incomplete

If you have a mechanical chime and it only makes a “ding” sound when the doorbell is rung, you will need to reinstall your Chime Connector.

  1. Locate your doorbell’s chime box and remove the cover

The Base Station Does Not Sound When The Video Doorbell is Rung

If the Base Station does not chime when the Video Doorbell is rung, make sure that the Base Station Chime setting is enabled or loud enough. If you have a mechanical chime, the Base Station Chime setting is turned off by default, and if you have a digital chime or use a plug-in power adapter, it is set to Low.

You can customize this setting in the SimpliSafe® app by taking the following steps:

  1. Open the SimpliSafe® app on your phone or tablet

  2. Navigate to My System on the bottom right corner of the screen

  3. Select Camera Settings

  4. Choose your Video Doorbell Series 2

  5. Select the Base Station Chime setting

  6. Drag your finger along the slider bar to your desired volume, and then tap Save
