Is a Wi-Fi Connection or Computer Needed to Use the Original SimpliSafe® System?

Everything you need to set up the SimpliSafe® Home Security System is included. If you have access to a computer, you will have access to additional features and settings, but it is not required. Just plug your Keychain Remote (which has a built-in USB device) into a USB port of your computer and the SimpliSafe® Easy Setup Wizard will launch and guide you through setting up and using your home security system.

However, the SimpliCam® Indoor Camera and Video Doorbell Pro do require Wi-Fi and access to the SimpliSafe® app (opens in new tab) through either Google Play Store (must have Android version 12.0 or higher) or the iOS App Store (must have iOS 17.0 or higher).

IMPORTANT UPDATE: With Adobe Flash discontinued, we are no longer able to update keychains as the remote’s software is no longer operational. However, the remote will still work to arm and disarm your system, as well as trigger the panic button. You can also contact customer support (opens in new tab) to upgrade to our latest SimpliSafe® system which does not require use of the Keychain Remote USB.
