The Base Station Won't Chime When an Entry Sensor is Opened
If your Base Station is not emitting a chime when the Entry Sensor is open, there are a few steps to take to try and troubleshoot this issue. Before taking any steps, we recommend disarming your system by setting it to OFF in the SimpliSafe® Mobile App or on your Keypad. Additionally, go through each item below within its corresponding collapsible section, and test the Entry Sensor by opening a door or window after completing each section.
You can customize your sensor’s behavior to be off or react as a Secret Alert (opens in new tab) within the SimpliSafe® Mobile App. If the sensor is off for home or away, or marked as a Secret Alert, you won’t hear a chime when opening doors or windows.
To Adjust the Alarm Mode Settings:
Open the SimpliSafe® Mobile App (opens in new tab) on your phone or tablet
Choose My System from the bottom navigation bar, followed by Device Settings (opens in new tab)
Select your Entry Sensor from the list of available products
Under Device Behaviors, tap on Off, Home, or Away and adjust these settings, as necessary for each mode
Don’t forget to tap SAVE in the upper right corner of the screen to save your selections
To Adjust the Chime or Name Announcement Volume:
Open the SimpliSafe® Mobile App (opens in new tab) on your phone or tablet
Choose My System from the bottom navigation bar, followed by Base Station Settings (opens in new tab)
Select "Audio Alerts"
Find the section titled "Entry Sensor Chime or Name Announcement" and adjust the slider to Off, Low, Medium, or High as needed
Select SAVE in the upper right corner of the screen to save your selections
How to Place your System into Test Mode:
Disarm your system by pressing OFF on the Keypad
Press the Menu button on your Keypad
Enter your Master PIN
Scroll until Test Mode is highlighted
Press on the right side of the screen to Test Mode
You’ll know you are in Test Mode when you see a circle on the Keypad appear with the text, “Test each device by pressing its button”.
Note: If you subscribe to monitoring (opens in new tab), you will receive a robo call from the monitoring center asking you to confirm you placed your system into Test Mode. If you do not answer - no worries! A voicemail will be left to alert you to the system test, and it will not result in a request for dispatch.
To test your Entry Sensor, open and close protected doors and windows. The Base Station will announce “Entry Sensor” if the test was successful.
You can also press the button on the top of the Entry Sensor to test the sensor’s functionality. This will also result in the Base Station announcing, “Entry Sensor” if successful.
If the test was successful, this should clear out the low battery warning once you exit Test Mode. To exit Test Mode, press the left side of the screen on the Keypad. Your Base Station should announce “Alarm Off” verifying that your system is now ready to use and re-arm, if applicable.
If the test was not successful, you’ll want to replace the batteries within your Entry Sensor (opens in new tab). The Entry Sensor takes one Duracell CR-2032 Lithium 3V battery and has a life expectancy of up to 5 years depending on placement and usage. You can remove the battery by sliding the sensor off its bracket, towards the pairing button. Then, replace the lithium battery inside the sensor and slide the backing onto it to enclose it once more.
You can reset your Base Station (opens in new tab) by removing a single battery from the device for about 60 seconds. Please ensure that you follow the steps as they are outlined below to complete this process successfully. Once you have reset your Base Station, try opening a door or window for the affected Entry Sensor and confirm if it is chiming again.
Unplug the Base Station from power by removing the cable from the bottom of the Base Station
Wait at least 60 seconds
OR until the SimpliSafe® Mobile App states “Power Outage” on the timeline
Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the screw on the bottom of the Base Station and twist the cover off
Remove a single battery from the Base Station and wait 60 seconds, then reinsert the battery
Twist the cover back on, replace the screw and then plug the Base Station back into power
After 60 seconds, a “Power Restored” message should populate on the timeline within the SimpliSafe® Mobile App
Next, arm your system to HOME mode, then disarm it by setting it to OFF
This will ensure that the message clears from the mobile app and test that your system is properly arming and disarming itself
