At SimpliSafe, we know how important keeping your home and belongings safe is during the stressful and exciting time of moving. That’s why we aim to make our systems the easiest part of your move—whether you’re bringing your system with you, leaving it behind for the next resident, or a little bit of both!
You can bring:
- Base Station and some sensors
- Only your Base Station while leaving sensors behind
- Leave your Base Station behind and only take your sensors if you plan to get a new Base Station for your new home
- Learn how to transfer your service to your new Base Station here.
Whichever you choose, keep in mind that your Keypad and Base Station know each other, so keeping them together will keep your system working best and allow new residents to set up their system more easily with a Base Station and Keypad pair.
PACKING UP: REMOVE AND GATHER
To prevent setting off any false alarms while uninstalling your system, follow these simple steps:
- Make sure your system is disarmed and in Off mode
- Unplug your Base Station AND remove at least one battery
When you’re ready to pack up the devices you’re taking with you, make sure that anything that will be separated from the Base Station and Keypad are removed from the system. This includes all sensors, Smart Locks, and all cameras. This will ensure that they can be properly added to the new owner’s system if you’re leaving them behind, or that you can properly use them with your new Base Station at your new home.
To remove devices being separated from the SimpliSafe system, follow these steps in your mobile app:
- Main Menu
- My System
- Device Settings
OR
Camera Settings - Select the device
- Tap the red Remove Device option at the bottom of the screen
- Repeat for each sensor, Smart Lock, and camera being separated from the Base Station
Make sure to let your realtor and the new resident know about what devices you’re leaving behind. You can make a list of the devices so that they are easy to find.
For any sensors that you’re taking with you, remove the adhesive strips from the wall with a firm grip. They should pull away easily, but if you have any trouble, here’s a few tips for easy removal:
- If your sensor is in a bracket, remove the sensor before attempting to remove the adhered bracket
- Try rotating the device to loosen the adhesives’ grip
- Slide dental floss between the adhesive and the wall to loosen
Then pack them up with the materials provided in our Moving Package (give us a call at 888-692-0229 to request it!)—and label your sensors to save time when setting up in your new home.
MOVING IN: ADHERE AND CONNECT
Have time between homes? Give us a call for options to pause your monitoring while you’re between homes.
Now that you’re at your new home, just put your sensors back up the same way you did when you first installed your system—adhering them to the clean, dry wall and pressing in place for 30 seconds. Click here for more guidance and resources for getting your system set up in your new home—and don’t forget to reinsert your Base Station’s batteries before plugging it back in!
If you need more adhesives than what is included in our Moving Package (give us a call at 888-692-0229 to request it!), you can order them here.
SimpliSafe systems are designed with DIY self-install and uninstall in mind, but you can also take advantage of our professional installation services through OnTech. Just schedule a time and OnTech can install your system for you while you focus on settling into your new home.
If your WiFi network and/or password has changed, you will need to reconnect your system and update your camera settings. You can do so through the Keypad or through the SimpliSafe mobile app (Menu > My System > General Settings > WiFi Network). If your WiFi credentials have not changed, your system should automatically reconnect.
SETTLING IN: TEST AND PROTECT
For any additional devices to cover all areas of your new home, you can always order more devices through our website. And for our customers subscribed to our Interactive Monitoring plan, you’ll get 10% off any new equipment.
You’ll also need to update your information in the SimpliSafe mobile app. Make sure to update your address as well as any PINs and your Safe Word in the Location Profile section (Menu > Location Profile) and rename any sensors that have changed to new locations or uses (Menu > My System > Device Settings).
We also suggest that you test your system to make sure everything is connected and working properly—you can follow the steps here.
