Practice Mode and Test Mode are different! Click here to learn about Practice Mode.
Test Mode is a System State you can manually enter through the Menu on your Keypad. It is a great way to check the connection between the Base and the Dispatch Center as well as the Base and its sensors. Entering Test Mode does not affect your Monitoring Status. However, if a Smoke Detector, Carbon Monoxide Detector, or Duress Alarm were triggered while your System is in Test Mode the Dispatch Center will act as if it is an emergency.
When a Monitored System enters Test Mode, it prompts a courtesy call from the Dispatch Center and generates “User Initiated Test” on the Timeline. The courtesy call is not considered an emergency and may not have the same response time as an actual alarm event. It will also not result in Dispatch. The Dispatch Center simply reaches out to the Primary Contact to let them know the Monitoring Services received the Test Signal.
Entering Test Mode also allows you to test the Base Stations’s connection with its sensors. The Base Station will announce the sensor type to confirm that it has received the signal. Check out the testing guide for the Gen 3 SimpliSafe Sensors or the Original Simplisafe Sensors for complete testing instructions.
If you have any concerns about Sensors communicating with the Base or the Base communicating with dispatch please contact customer support for further assistance.
