Live Guard Protection program

I have three SimpliSafe cameras in my house right now.  How are these "New" cameras any different?  Are my older SS cameras now obsolete and no longer useful?  Can I trade-in my old cameras for the new ones?

Hi @route_66_guy,

At this time, live guard protection is only available with the Smart Alarm™ Wireless Indoor Security Camera, not the SimpliCam. Your older cameras are not obsolete. We’re currently in the beta phase with this program, but as we learn more we will keep you updated.

Thank you for the reply. Reading the descriptions of "Live Guard" make it more confusing.  I consider the 24 / 7 monitoring by COPS to be my "Live Guard", complete with access to my 3 cameras. The new cameras might be a great improvement over the existing SimpliSafe cameras, but why is it necessary to make it sound so mysterious with the name Live Guard"?  When it is finished with the "Beta Phase" what will be the cost of this new service? Is COPS monitoring going to be phased out and replaced with a new monitoring system?  How does the camera distinguish between a good guy and a bad guy? Will my pets trigger a false alarm?  Will a Pet Sitter who does not live in the house trigger an alarm?

One description states "

Fast intruder deterrence

The only indoor camera that can instantly trigger the alarm and deter intruders with a built-in siren and live, two-way agent audio." So who are the "Agents", COPS or someone else? My cameras are now activated by a sensor triggering an alarm BEFORE the intruder is even in the house.  If the camera is going to trigger an alarm then I would need one in every room in the house.  My sirens (3) hopefully will obtain "Fast intruder deterrence" just as well or better than any audio from a camera.

I am completely satisfied with my SimpliSafe system as it is now and frankly see no need to spend more money trying to improve something that has worked well for a number of years. The expense of another $839.94 for 6 cameras that may or may not safeguard my house just doesn't make any sense to me.

@route_66_guy24/7 Live guard protection is what we are calling a new addition to our service.

Under your current Monitoring Service, if there's an alarm, and if you have the Visual Verification option enabled in your settings, then your cameras will send a recording of the alarm event to our professional monitoring agent. The agent will call you, and if you answer, they can tell you what they see. But if you miss the call, then the agent will call your police, and let them know that same info.

With 24/7 live guard protection, the agent will actually be able to view the camera feed live, and talk to whoever is at the other end. If that's you, you can give them your Safe Word passcode, and that will cancel dispatch. If whoever is in view can't give the Safe Word passcode, then the agent will call the police - just like with a phone call.

At this time, while we are still in the beta process, additional pricing (if any) for the new service has not yet been determined. But please don't worry, your existing service and equipment won't be affected if you choose not to opt in. This is just something new that we're offering on top of what is already available.

Thanks Davey. I've had SimplisSafe for almost 10 years; first with the old  system and now with the latest system. In that time I've had the police respond twice due to a false alarm by my cat, and then by a unsecured shed door blowing in the wind.  Both times I didn't have my cell phone with me to answer the call from COPS. I was frankly impressed by the quick response from our police department and made a trip to the station to tell them that.  Those alarms both happened before I had any cameras.  I also have numerous Smoke Detectors throughout the house and garage in case of fire.

It seems that with the 24/7 live guard protection the alarm will be sounded AFTER an intruder has entered the property if it is the primary alarm system.  That is unacceptable in my opinion. My house is now so well alarmed that there is no way  anyone can even come close to entering without me knowing about it.  Besides, a bad guy isn't going to want to carry on a conversation with a voice from a camera.  He'll grab anything he wants and depart in hurry.

I also have Ring cameras all around my house that will text me if anyone even comes up the driveway.  Those are always quick and dependable and provide a real time picture of what is going on outside of my house. At night motion lights light up the house like daylight, so I think I am pretty well covered.

I myself will not Opt in to this new idea. Perhaps it will be something to consider in the future, but for now I trust my present system to protect my family and property. I just hope that will never change.

@route_66_guy,

With 24/7 live guard protection, there will be no difference in when your alarm sounds. The difference here is that our monitoring agents can see what is happening in real time and speak to whoever set off the alarm through the camera.

As Davey mentioned, you don't need to opt in to this program - it's just something new we're offering. I can see that you're very happy with your current system, please know that you will be able to keep it as is!

Is the new interactive indoor camera an actual triggering device when motion is detected in and of itself, or does it record, notify COPS, and activate the siren only when the main house system activates?

Also, can the activation delay be set as with the other devices? Example, time to enter and deactivate with the keypad?
