I would really like a Simplisafe outdoor camera that did not require a power cord.

I think the title says it all. I would like a battery operated Simplisafe outdoor camera.

Hi @vze322jp,

While we haven't had much about it recently, we are indeed still working on a dedicated Outdoor Camera. We can't say much more, not even about features or release date. But soon!

Cameras tend to use a fair amount of power.  Although battery power is certainly possible, do you really want to have to change/recharge batteries every day or 2 or even weekly?  Perhaps a solar powered camera (with rechargeable battery for night time) would be better.

Or frankly, wired camera systems, although a pain to install, are more effective for outdoors use.
Actually modern cameras don't use that much power. I have the Arlo system which I was planning to fully replace with my Simplisafe setup. The Arlo cameras typically go for 2-3 months before needing to be recharged, even on the one covering my driveway that alerts on every vehicle driving past and records 30s of video for each alert.

Guess I'll have to keep the Arlo system in addition to monitor outside my house until SimpliSafe gives us an outdoor camera.

I just installed a new system and purchased 2 video doorbells. Sadly I processed a return of the two video doorbells today.

My question is: can the Ring Video Doorbell be attached to my SimpliSafe system? Support tells me no way....
Please help or beta test a new product for you. I am an engineer.

@bgcoffeelovers the ring doorbell cannot be connected to SImplisafe. Why did you decide to return them?

I built a new home, just completed. My belief was that doorbell wiring was not required.
Since I have brick exterior with 6" foam filled walls, it would be destructive to install wiring now.

Ring operates on battery power, rechargeable.  I assumed you had the same.

Hi @bgcoffeelovers,

If you're at all interested in possibly being a beta tester of ours, you can fill out the form linked on this thread. Beta Testers will get a chance to experience upcoming products and features before they're released. You may receive the product for free, or receive a very steep discount

I second the top comment of wanting a battery powered camera. I got my system as part of this most recent Black Friday deal which included a free camera. I'm not interested in one inside my house but when I saw there was an outdoor kit available I thought it would be perfect for my front door. Since it was free I hadn't looked at the specs too closely and due to it being possible to use it outside, and the fact that the door sensors, smoke alarm, and base are all battery powered I assumed the camera was as well. My house doesn't have an outlet anywhere outside so I ended up having to drill a hole through my front wall and then caulk it back once the cord was through.

We also don't have a peep hole or anyway of seeing the front stoop without opening the door which is the only reason I did end up doing all that for the camera. It has been working fine and definitely adds peace of mind of being able to see outside without opening the door but I would also have much rather had the option to use it outside without having to drill through my wall.

@maxinetodd68 battery is nice but the ideal for me would be AC with a battery pack option.
