Upcoming +20% price increase

I've been a customer for less than a year and I'm already being hit with a 20% monitoring plan price increase in less than a month. I understand prices cannot stay fixed forever, but the way they indiscriminately raise costs for everyone is such a poor experience for customers.

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience! This is the first time we have ever raised our Monitoring prices, and it's not something that we have taken lightly. We did it so we could continue investing in improving our products and services.

If you haven't already, you can read more about this on our Help Center. But I would also suggest giving our Support team a call at 800-548-9508 for options that may be able to help.

How will my service be improved Dave? I don’t want cameras or phone apps from SimpliSafe.

We are continually working on improving all of our products and services. So yes, that does mean smarter app features, and more devices to add to your system (which we obviously would strongly suggest you try out!). But also things like better emergency dispatch, and smarter support when you need it.

By the way, you mention that you were looking to upgrade. Did you already know about our Upgrade discount? We can get you at last 50% off a brand new system! Our Support team at 800-548-9508 can put together a package for you.

You have a tough job trying to spin it.

I wasn't notified of the increase, it just showed up on my bill. That's bad.

Good catch on the spin. That's also bad.

So far Simplisafe is two for two in the bad department. Not looking forward to a 3 for 3.

@YesOfficer all customers were notified a month in advance by email - to the address we have on your account, so you could be prepared for the change. If you give our Support team a call at 800-548-9508, we can even tell you the date when the email was sent. Of course, if you have concerns about your service, our Support team would also be happy to take care of you.

You don’t have to put up with it. Competitors exist. Sell your old system to offset the costs of new. Loyalty will get you nothing and there is no grandfathering. I’ve been a customer for well over a decade. Haven’t received an offer for a cent off expanding my system, not that I expected it. My system is getting old and some components are no longer available. So I’m shopping the competition.

I agree with you! Im shopping around to.

Me too. I am not interested in the new features so should be able to opt out increase. Fortunately I have never needed to use the services so considering tossing.  The lock is horrible and was a waste from the beginning.

According to information from Simplisafe the price increase is to be effective Jan 1, 2023. However, the price increase has already occured for me on my Oct 2022 billing. What gives?

I just found out it’s a 100% increase! Dropping SimpliSafe like an expensive hot potato and getting a Ring that is only $3.99 month for service compared to $9.99

@pbar27 it sounds like you were previously on a single-camera plan, which has since been sunset. We do offer the Self-Monitoring With Camera Recordings plan, which offers unlimited Camera Recordings for up to 5 cameras. So in that case it's not a price increase on an existing plan; just an older plan that is no longer offered. More info on our Plans and pricing can be found here.

Been a customer since 3/2020 but one more price hike and I am gone.

@gblekas Are you aware of the one that is coming?

Yeah, they've really decided to just stick it to their core base. It appears that I can get a better package from my Internet co for a better price now that that SS has driven up their prices. Time to bundle.

@davey_d And now a second increase. I have been a customer for 2 years. First increase of $3 per month and now another of $2. Said to be in efforts to invest in products and service. Your suppose to use your profits to invest in bettering your company not charge more. This package was already mediocre equipment for about the same price as competitors with better equipment. The $3 did not change the quality of your services and raising the price substantially each year is an outrage. I hope this company falls flat on it's face.

I guess we can now plan on our package prices going up $2-$3 per year from here on out. The fraudulent aspect of this all is that they periodically sell us on equipment, and then raise prices on a whim. Not anymore, expect increases every single year now. Simplisafe has never given us a better reason to shop around. It's really quite sad when a seemingly good business treat its customers this way.

@djdanno  we will always strive to have affordable and transparent pricing for our customers and to offer products and services that are a great value for the price.

Have been with Simplisafe for about two years. Last year was a 20% increase, when inflation was ridiculously high at 8%. Now hit with an 11% increase, when inflation is back down to 3-4%. What gives. Strongly considering canceling service and using self monitoring. Simplisafe appears to think they can just keep increasing rates at well above inflation rates and seemingly nobody cares; except me

My best presumption is that others care; I know that I do. For some, it often comes down to the simple fact that most do not have the time to shop around and find another company that can provide the same or a similar level of service (either that or they do not wish to make the time). Others are okay with it as they see the service and what it provides at the current (inflated) cost as a value (still). Then, some look at their equipment investment and factor that into their decision to remain. And the rest are wise in knowing they can leave to a rival, only to have the same happen. I can only speak for myself, but as I stated in another thread, I no longer patronize a company or business as soon as I feel the value is not in line with the service. With SimpliSafe, I would guess that is one more price hike. For now, while I am not too fond of price increases, it is at the top of the threshold I set for myself. If you are going to raise rates, you had better add value by offering me more than you currently do. It took me a year to compare companies and systems before deciding on SimpliSafe over a decade ago. While I do not wish to go through that again, I will look at the total cost of comparable/rival systems (and monitoring fees) soon in case I eventually move on. An alarm is as good as its electronic components and dispatch, which will also affect my decision.

One thing I never do is stick around once I feel I am being taken advantage of. I recently switched cable and Internet service after 20+ years with the same provider. SimpliSafe is coming close to that in my mind. While most consumers complain without follow-through, I am certainly not one of them. But it comes down to the number who follow through on their warnings to downgrade or leave. Companies only pay attention once a majority votes with their dollars (and they start losing them).
