@usmaak I will spare you and others my ADT stories (if you want to be bored, you can do a Google site search and read my 7+ years of hatred for ADT) but congrats. Also, as you noted, you don't own the system and by contract you are legally required to return to them.  I had to send a certified letter, return receipt, when they refused and gave them 30 days to come and get it or it was going into the trash.  To put it simply, they suck.  Worst day at SS was better than any day with ADT.

Congrats of breaking free!

Oh, one more thing.....check your credit cards for the foreseeable future. I did and glad I did the reviews.

That is not the case with my system.  It says right in my contract that after the expiration of my contract (three years ago now) that I own the system.  I printed a copy of the contract out and had it handy so that I could refer to it if I needed to.

I don't know.  I got my system six years ago.  Perhaps they are.  Or maybe it had more to do with the affiliate I signed with.

@usmaak, very well could be.  After I cancelled, in writing, they billed me another month, saying it was a "courtesy billing" inc I changed my mind. LOL. They credited it, and then next month I got a late payment fee. It was a nightmare to break away from them.

^ I had a similar experience with a certain telephone company.  After I fired them, moved into a new house and the fencing crew cut the phone line, the phone company came out and reamed me a good one because I told them I didn't want their service and I don't care if the line is cut, I'll never use it.  (and like ADT, their billing practices were a horror show).  To think I actually considered (very briefly, like an hour) going with ADT in the new house.  Glad my brain was working that day!

I would not sign up for a 3 year contract with anyone!  Love our Simplisafe system.

Much less a contract with an automatic renewal and the only way to avoid the renewal is to do exactly the right thing at exactly the right time.
